I TROUSERS Filed April 7, 1947' 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 In ventor Maurice Nein ken Awm WWW a];
Patented Feb. 21, 1950 UNITED: STATES PATENT OFFl C EI TROUSERS MazuriceeNeinken, Hilltown, Pa. Appl cationAprilfi'i, 1947, S'erial No. 739,868"- This invention relates generallyto'trousers; and
more particularlyto'the-combination-with at waist band for trousers ofa'pair' of' strapsipermanently and terminally secured atone "end tothefiy portion of th trousers andselectively securable at the other end to one or both of a pair-of fasten ing devices located on' the waistband and substantially equally spaced from'the'said fly:
An object of-thisinventionis'to provide a'pair of straps which can be fastened either both" on one side or one0neaclrside'of the waistband,
at the front thereof; in'order: to support the front" portion of the trousers; the" fastening means on ei-ther side ofthe center line of the trousersincluding spaced fasteningjmeans' such' as buttons in' conjunction with waist which may be used band adjusting straps of substantially conventional character, whereby the same fastening th immediatelypreceeding object, is to provide 1 a common facingfor the liereirrbe'fore described straps, upon-whichfacing decorative or" emblematic indicia may be placed.
And a last object to be specifically mentioned is to provide a waist band for trousers which is relatively inexpensive and practicable to manufacture, comfortable to wear, and which will provide for generally efficient and durable service.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which form a material part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a pair of trousers constructed according to this invention;
Figure 2 is a similar view adapted to illustrate i how the two straps may be fastened to one side of the trousers;
Figure 3 is a rear view of a pair of trousers with waist adjusting straps of substantially standard character secured thereon, this figure being included in the drawings" to clearly illustrate the structure of a particular typeof trousers wherewith this adapted tobe used';
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view, takenon the line 4-4in Figure- 1'; and
Figure 5 is' a fragmentary view, similar to" Figure 4, but showing how-both strap portions may be Worn on one side of thetrousers;
Similar characters of reference d'esignate'similar or identical parts and portions throughout the specification and throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring nowto the drawings in detail; which" drawings represent" only' one preferred emb'odi ment of this invention, it will be noted'that this' invention is adapted to beapplied to-a pair of trousers l 0' of substantially standard characterhaving a waist band l2 anda fly comprisedof a portion I4 andan overl'apping'portion I6.
The material of thewaistbandllis continued through the overlappingportion l6 to'comprise" [8 may be tapered to a smallerwidth at the outer endthereof andisprovided with a button hole 2'6 adap-tedto coact a strap I8. This strap with abutton 22secured' to the waistband l2.
A similar strap 24is' permanently secured" to the overlapping fly'portion l6, asby stitching,
and is provided with a button hole 28"forsecurement to the button 22; or, alternatively, to a second button- 26, which issimilarly spaced on the opposite side of the fly.
In the preferred form of this invention, the
two straps l8 and 24 are tary facing 30. The particular method of applying this need not be detailed here, but it should be noted that the button holes and edges of the straps should be carefully finished so as to present a finished appearance on both sides thereof, in order that the straps may be alternatively worn both on the right side, both on the left side, or one on each side of the fly portion.
Although the structure of this invention is not materially concerned with the application of an emblematic or decorative design upon this facing 30, it is an important feature of this invention that this unitary facing provides a finished appearance to the front portion of the waist band, and is ideally adapted for the application of various types of indicia thereon. It will be noted that when such indicia or decorative design is applied to the said facing 30, this applied indicia may be exposed or hidden at the waist of the wearer of the garment, simply by fastening the straps i8 and 24 one on each side provided with a uniinvention is especially well of the fly, or both on one side of the fly, respectively.
When the trousers include waist adjustment straps 32, these straps may be fastened to the buttons 34 ordinarily supplied therefor, or alter natively to the buttons 22 and 26, this improved waist band structure being, therefore, ideally adapted for combination with trousers having such lateral waist band adjustment straps as those illustrated at 32.
It will be understood that this invention is applicable to nearly all types of trousers, and that the structure of the trousers, with regard to the provision of pockets 35 and the like, is not altered.
The use of this invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing description of the mechanical details thereof, taken in connection with the above recitation of the objects sought to be achieved by this invention, and further description is, therefore, deemed unnecessary.
Though there has been shown a particular embodiment of this invention, this application is not limited to this particular embodiment, but it is desired to include in the scope of this invention the construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In combination with a waist band for trousers having a fly, a pair of fastening means on the front side of the waist band and spaced substantially equally from the fly, a pair of straps permanently and terminally secured at one end to an overlapping portion of said fly and securable at the other ends thereof to said fastening means selectively one to each of said fastening means, both to one of said means, and both to the other of said means.
2. In combination with a waist band for trousers having a fly, fastening means on the front side of the waist band and spaced substantially equally from the fly, a pair of straps permanently and terminally secured at one end to an overlapping portion of said fly and selectively securable at the other ends thereof to said fastening means, said fastening means comprising a plurality of spaced buttons, and a second pair of straps each secured at one end to a rear portion of said waist band and selectively securable one to each of said spaced buttons, said first mentioned straps being selectively securable,
both to one of said buttons, and both to the other of said buttons, and one to each of said buttons.
3. In combination with a waist band for trousers having a fly, fastening means on the front side of the waist band and spaced substantially equally from the fly, a pair of straps permanently and terminally secured at one end to an overlapping portion of said fly and securable at the other ends thereof to said fastening means selectively one to each of said fastening means, both to one of said means, and both to the other of said means, said straps being tapered to smaller widths at said other ends.
4. In combination with at waist band for trousers having a fly, fastening means on the front side of the waist band and spaced substantially equally from the fly, a pair of straps permanently and terminally secured at one end to an overlapping portion of said fly and securable at the other ends thereof to said fastening means selectively one to each of said fastening means, both to one of said means, and both to the other of said means, said straps having a unitary facing on the sides thereof in juxtaposition when said straps are both secured to said one of said fastening means.
5. In combination with a waist band for trousers having a fly, a pair of fastening means on the front side of the waist band and spaced substantially equally from the fly, a pair of straps permanently and terminally secured at one end to an overlapping portion of said fly and secureble at the other ends thereof to said fastening means selectively one to each of said fastening means, both to one of said means, and both to the other of said means, insignia applied to and carried by the sides of said straps in juxtaposition when both straps are secured to one of said means and exposed when the straps are individually connected to the respective means.
