POISTER MATCH DISPENSER Feb. 14, 1950 2 Sheets$heet 2 Filed Aug. 5, 1946 This invention relates Patented Feb. 14, 1950 uNrrao STATE s PATENT OFFICE MATCH DISPENSER Clarence E. Poister, Sabetha, Kans. Application August 5, 1946, Serial No. 688,566
vide a dispenser of this type in which the number of operating parts is reduced, and the parts are of simple form so that the device will not get out of order. 4
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of this kind which is so constructed and arranged that the parts thereof can for the most part be made out of metal stampings, plastic, or like molded material.
A further object of this invention is to provide a dispenser of this kind wherein the articles will not become disarranged as they progress from the hopper to the ejector.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the respective views.
Figure 1 is a detail front elevation of a dispensing device constructed according to an embodiment of this invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a plan view of the gate,
Figure 6 is a plan view of the delivery member.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates generally a housing formed of opposite side walls I I, I2, and a hinged top wall or closure I3 carried by hinges H. A rear wall I is fixed relative to the side walls H, l2 and is adapted to be secured by fastener members 16 to a stationary support.
The housing Ill includes a pair of downwardly convergent inner walls l1, l8, forming a hopper 19, which is open at the lower end thereof. A transversely arcuate gate 20 is disposed at the lower ends of the walls l1, l8 and is adapted to normally close these walls. The gate 20 is car- .through which a pivot member :28, extends. delivery member generally designated ,as .29; is
ried by a radially disposed body 2i extending inwardly from the concave side of the gate, and
formed with an elongated delivery slot 22 termi nating at the opposite ends thereof in enlarged slots 23.
The body 20 is adapted to be pivotally secured between side walls ll, l2, by'means of pivot members 24, which engage in the opposite ends 25 of the body 2|. The body 2| has extending downwardly therefrom, a pair of ears 26, 21, A
rockably mounted on the pivot member 28 between the two ears 26, 21. The delivery member 29 is formed of a substantially cylindrical body 30 which is formed with the reduced diameter portion 3| forming shoulders 32, 33.
The delivery member 29 is also formed with a lengthwise disposed slot 34 which is adapted to register with the slots 22, 23 when the delivery member 29 is in its inoperative position so that one of the articles passing through slots 22, 23 will drop into the delivery slot 34. An operative handle generally designated as 35 is fixed to the radial body 2| and extends forwardly and downwardly therefrom. The operator 35 includes a plate 36 which is formed with a pair of arms 31 which are fixed relative to the body 2|. The operator 35 also includes a downwardly extending handle portion 38 projecting below housing 10.
The delivery member 29 is formed with a radial slot 39 through which a pin 40 fixed between the side members ll, l2 loosely engages. The pin 40 is adapted upon rotation of the gate 20 to cause the delivery member 29 to rotate in a counter movement, or in a counterclockwise movement as shown in Figure 2, in order to discharge or deliver a match or toothpick which is engaged within the slot 34.
In the use and operation of this device, the matches or toothpicks are dropped into the hopper l9 and will gradually move downward to engage gate 20. A series of the matches or toothpicks will be engaged in the slot 22, the enlarged end slots 23 being provided so that the heads of the matches may loosely engage therein. The lowermost match or toothpick will drop into slot 34 or delivery member 29. When the handle 38 is rocked to the left, as viewed in Figure 2, the gate 20 will be rocked clockwise and the delivery member 29 will be rocked counterclockwise. The match or toothpick engaging in the slot 34 will be discharged by rocking of the delivery member 29, and the reduced diameter portion 3| of the delivery member 29 will close the lower ends of the slots 22, 23 to prevent delivery of more than one article at a time.
When the handle 38 is rocked in a counterclockwise direction, the delivery member 29 will be rocked forwardly and the gate 20 will be rocked rearwardly to the positions shown in Figure 2. The next match or toothpick will then drop into the slot 34yWhich at this time, registers with the slot 22.
With a device as hereinbefore described, matches or toothpicks can be dispensed one ata time and the matches or toothpicks will be held against clogging by the configuration :of the hopper and the slotted gate.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein JCIiSCIOSGd bUt claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claims.
What I desire to claim is: 1. A dispenser as set forth comprising ahopper havin a lower discharge opening, a transversely arcuate gate closing said discharge opening, ,said
'gateincluding an elongated slotted radial guide, means rockably mounting said gate and guide below said hopper, a delivery member below'said guide formed with an elongated slot adapted in one position 'of said delivery member 'to register "and means correlated 'with'said hopper and said ,4 delivery member whereby to rock said delivery member reversely from said guide and gate, said delivery member being so formed whereby upon rocking thereof to delivery position the slot 01' said guide will be closed.
2. A dispenser as set forth comprising a hopper having a lower discharge opening, a transversely arcuate gate closing said discharge opening, said gate including an elongated slotted radial guide, meanszrockably mounting said gate and guide below said hopper, a delivery member below said guide formed with an elongated slot adapted in one position of said delivery member to register with said guide whereby to receive a single article; means rockably mounting said delivery member,
delivery member and simultaneously reversely rotate said delivery member to'delivering position.
