SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 248,939, dated November 1, 1881.

Application filed April 30, 1881.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK JUDD LOWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Townville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Device for Holding the Reins of a Horse, and to be attached to a sleigh, wagon, buggy, or other vehicle, of which the following is a specification.

The nature 0t my invention is as follows: It is a device to hold the reins srcurelywhen the driver desires to prevent their falling on the ground under the feet of the horse.

A B, as shown in the accompanying drawing, are two jaws of a clamp, hinged together at K by a pin, L.

O is a stud with a thumb-screw, D, the end of which presses against the shoulder in the arm E, and by turning this thumb-screwD the 20 jaws A B are closed over the edge of the dashboard on which the clamp is placed.

(Model) F G H are three arms across the arm E at right angles to it. The ends of the cross-arm H end in a lug or projection, S S, to keep the reins from slipping off.

The deviceis clamped on the dashboard, and the reins are held by passing them over the arm H, under the arm G, and over the arm F, and back again until they are securely held as desired.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
