Description
Nov. 22, 1949 D. F. CHRISTOFFER swINE TOOL` 5 Filed Jan. 3, 1946 vam Patented Nov. 22, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in swine tools, and more particularly to a nose clamp which will be positive in action when securing a swine.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved swine tool which will fit over the nose or snout of a swine to hold it while it is being ringed, vaccinated, wormed, or is receiving other treatment.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved swine or hog holding tool which will be positive in action when locked to tightly hold a hog.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved hog tool which will be highly efficient in operation and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved swine tool;
Figure 2 is an end view partly in section showing the device in unlocked position;
Figure 3 is an end View partly in section of the device in locked position, and
Figure 4 is a partial sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specication and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding arts. p In carrying out the invention, there is .provided a tubular body I having longitudinally spaced handles 2 and 3 extending laterally therefrom, and the outer end of said body I is closed by the cap or head member 4 which is preferably welded in position by the weld 5,
A rod 6 somewhat smaller than the inside diameter of the body I extends substantially the full distance within the said body and through a keyhole slot or opening 'I formed through the said head member 4, and is bent to form the handle 8, as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawings.
A locking peg 9 is secured on the surface of the head member 4 adjacent the keyhole opening l, and is adapted to cooperate with a series of studs I formed at spaced intervals on one side of the rod 6.
The cap member II is welded at I2 to the inner end of the body I, and is formed with a laterally extending integral socket I3 which is square in cross-section. A wire cable I4 is secured at I to the lower or inner end of the rod 6, and is looped to enter the square socket I3,
' where it is secured at I6 to the inner end of said socket, in any desired manner.
From the foregoing description, the mode of operation will be as follows:
The handle 8 is pushed downward as far as it will go, which action opens the loop I4 and the same is placed over the nose or snout of a hog or swine, and then the handle is pulled as far out from the body I as possible, causing the loop I4 to tightly grip the hogs nose. The handle 8 is then rotated to the left to permit the stud I0 closest to the locking peg 9 to clear it, after which the handle is forced back a slight distance, leaving the stud I 0 locked behind the y said peg 9. To release the hog, the reverse procedure is followed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A hog holding tool comprising a tubular body having an inner end and an outer end, a tubular socket secured to said inner end and extending at right angles thereto, a rod with an inner and an outer end, said rod being slidably disposed in said tubularl body and formed with a transverse handle on its outer end, a cable having one end xed in said socket providing a loop whose other end is slidably received in the inner end of said tubular body and affixed to the inner end of said rod, and longitudinally spaced handles secured to said tubular body intermediate its opposite ends. v
2. A hog holding tool comprising a .tubular body having an inner and an outer end, a tubular socket secured to its inner end and extending at right angles thereto, a rod with an inner and outer end, said rod being slidably disposed in said tubular body and formed with a transverse handle on its outer end, a cable having one end xed in said socket providing a loop whose other end is slidably received in the inner end of said tubular body and aflixed to the inner end of said rod, longitudinally spaced handles secured to said tubular body intermediate its opposite ends, a cap secured to the outer end of said tubular body with an opening through which said rod passes, locking means for holding said tool in adjusted position including a series of longitudinally spaced lugs on said rod, and a locking peg on the cap engageable with said lugs when said rod is rotated to bring the same into locking relation.
