This invention relates to an attachment designed for use in connection with wire coat hangers, the primary object of the invention being to provide means to eliminate the undesirable and unsightly bulge or crease in garments as a result of hanging the garments on the narrow wire stock of which the hanger is constructed.

An important object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this character which may be readily and easily secured and positioned over the ends of a coat hanger to add the desired width to the hanger, preventin the objectionable crease resulting from the use of the hanger.

With the foregoin and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating one end of a coat hanger as equipped with an attachment constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 5 is a fragmental elevational view of the blank from which the attachment is constructed.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the usual wire coat hanger on which the attachment, forming the subject matter of the present invention, is secured.

The attachment comprises a body portion which is substantially wide at one end thereof, the side edges 6 tapering towards the inner end of the attachment, as clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawing. The body portion is curved transversely to present a rounded upper surface designed to fit within the upper portion of the sleeve or arm hole of a garment to spread the sleeve and to prevent creasing of the garment by the narrow wire stock of which the coat hanger is constructed.

One end of the body portion is curved downwardly at 1, the downwardly extended portion being tapered and offset, providing an offset tongue 8, the position of the tongue 8 being such that it will lie directly under the lower bar 9 of the coat hanger, the tongue being bent around the bar 9 securing this end of the attachment to the hanger.

Tongues H] are punched from the body portion at a point along a line drawn longitudinally through the center of the body portion, so that the tongues may be bent over the upper bar of the coat hanger. These tongues are so arranged that when they are bent around the coat hanger, they will contact the hanger at opposite sides, to prevent twisting of the attachment when in use.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided means for adding width to the usual narrow wire stock from which coat hangers are constructed, providing a wide supporting surface and eliminating the possibility of the hanger forming objectionable creases in the garment hung thereon.

What is claimed is:

An attachment for coat hangers, comprising a body portion constructed of semi-rigid material, said body portion comprising a concavoconvex structure, the convex surface being disposed outwardly, tabs extending inwardly from the body portion and adapted to be extended around a support on which the attachment is to be positioned, an extension formed at the outer end of the body portion, an elongated tongue formed at the end of the extension, said tongue being extended at an oblique angle with respect to a center line drawn longitudinally through the body portion, said extension adapted to overlie an end of a coat hanger on which it is to be positioned with the tongue adapted to be wrapped around a bar of a coat hanger, under the body portion.
