7 This invention relates to cloth laying-up machines for supporting a bolt'of cloth'to be placed in superposed layers of equallengths on a cut-' ting table.
An object of this invention is to provide a cloth laying-up machine comprising a cloth carrying frame pivotally mounted in superposed relation over a reciprocable' frame, 'the' reciprocable frame having adjustable arms for supporting fabric over a cutting table,*means for automaticallyraising the arms a predetermined distance from the table for every rotation of the pivotal frame, and latch means resiliently mounted at one end of the reciprocable frame and adapted for engagement with 'bolt receiving means on both ends of the pivotal frame for locking the frames in unitary relation after each rotation of the pivotal frame.
Another object of this invention is to mount ball bearings in horizontal alignment at'opposite ends of the reciprocable frame with their upper surfaces lying in a single plane and providing levelling means for automatically adjust: ing the pivotal frame to a level plane after each rotation of the pivotal frameto facilitate en gagement of the latch means. 7
Another object of this invention is to provide a latch bolt resiliently mounted for upward move-- ment at one end of the reciprocable frameandto provide latch bolt receiving means fixed at each end of the pivotal 'frame'for automatically locking the frames in unitary relation aftereach rotation of the pivotal frame.

In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the numeral Ill indicates a cloth laying-up machine comprising upper and lower frames. The lower frame II is slidably or reciprocably mounted on a cutting table l2. The frame H has end walls l3, I3,
The end walls are secured by threaded tubes l4, l4 passing through the walls. Threaded nuts I5 engage the threads onthe tubes on opposite sides of the end walls and maintain the end walls in space-apart relation.
Grooved wheels H are rotatably mounted on studs IS in legs l9at the lower portion of the end wall l3 and rest upon a track- 20 mounted on one side of the cutting table l2. The end wall I3 is supported by non-grooved or plain rubber wheels 2| rotatably mounted similar to the mounting of the grooved wheels I! and rest directly on the cutting table [2.
The upper or carrier frame identified by the numeral 22 is mounted on apivot centrally of the slidable frame. The carrier frame 22 is rotated at the end of each reciprocation of the slidableframe to expose. the fabric with the same face in an upward direction. The frame 22 has end walls 24 which extend upwardly and terminate in bifurcated upper ends 25 adapted to receive a shaft 26 fbr supporting a roll of cloth indicated by dot-and-dash lines 21. A suitable sheet metal cover 28 isisecured to and covers the tubes l4.
The roll of cloth 21 which is to be laid-up on the table I2 is supported'on the shaft 26. For the purpose of keeping the fabric in an even plane as it is laid-upon the table, the machine:
rollers 30, 3| and the pivots 33, 33 are spaced apart equally from the shaft 26,.
- -For the purpose ofequally moving both arms in the same direction relative to the table as. determined by the height of the cloth laid-up, the ends'of the armsopposite the rollers have pins 3 34 fixed therein and extending crosswise from the arms. An elongated horizontally positioned connecting member 35 has elongated slots 36 in which the pins 34 are slidably mounted.
The connecting member 35 has vertically positioned rectangular guide bars 40 secured thereto in any suitable manner, such as by pins 4|. The guide bars 40 are spaced apart and form between them a channel 42.
A vertically. elongated rectangular' bar 43. is.- fixed to each'end wall by bolts-44'; Each bar-43 has an elongated slot 45 centrally thereof. The cross-sectional dimensions of the bar 43 are made" to permit the connecting member 35 to)be freely! slidable in contacting relation therewith.

In accordance with the patent statutes I have described and illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that Various changes and modifications can be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a cloth laying-up machine comprising a cutting table and a frame reciprocably mounted on said table, a cloth carrying frame pivoted and rotatably mounted on said reciprocable frame, adjustable arms adjustably mounted upon said reciprocable frame, rods carried by said arms for supporting fabric over said cutting table, and means whereby rotation of said pivoted frame automatically raises said arms a predetermined distance from said table.
2. In a cloth laying-up machine comprising a cutting table and a frame reciprocably mounted on said table, a cloth carrying frame pivoted and rotatably mounted on said reciprocable frame, adjustable arms adjustably mounted upon said reciprocable frame, rods carried by said arms for supporting fabric over said cutting table, means whereby rotation of said pivoted frame automatically raises said arms a predetermined distance from said table, a bearing rotatably mounted at each end of said reciprocable frame for leveling said pivoted frame, and latch means in alinement with said bearings for automatically locking said frames in unitary relation after being levelled.
3. In a cloth laying-up machine comprising a cutting table and a frame reciprocably mounted on said table, a cloth carrying frame pivoted and rotatably mounted on said reciprocable frame, adjustable arms adjustably mounted upon said reciprocable frame, rods carried by said arms for supporting fabric over said cutting table, means whereby rotation of said pivoted frame automatically raises said arms a predetermined distance from said table, a rotatable bearing mounted on a horizontal axis at each end of said reciprocable frame for leveling said pivoted frame, and latch means in alinement with said bearings for automatically locking said frames in unitary relation after being levelled.
4. In a cloth laying-up machine comprising a cutting table and a frame reciprocably mounted on said table, a cloth carrying frame pivoted and rotatably mounted on said reciprocable frame, adjustable arms pivotally and adjustably mounted upon said reciprocable frame, rods carried at end portions of said arms for supporting fabric over said cutting table, means whereby rotation of said pivoted frame automatically raises said arms a predetermined distance from said table, a rotatable bearing mounted on a horizontal axis at each end of said reciprocabl frame, the upper surfaces of said bearings lying in a horizontal plane for supporting and leveling said pivoted frame, and latch means mounted on said frames and in alinement with said bearings for automatically locking said frames in unitary relation.
5. In a cloth laying-up machine comprising a cutting table and a frame reciprocably mounted on said table, a cloth carrying frame pivoted and rotatably mounted on said reciprocable frame, adjustable arms pivotally and adjustably mounted upon said reciprocable frame, rods carried at end portions of said arms for supporting fabric over said cutting table, vertically slidable members respectively connecting two of said arms, cams rotatably mounted on said reciprocable frame and contacting said connecting members, ratchet means mounted on said reciprocable frame for intermittently actuating said cams, and strikers at each end of said pivotal frame for actuating said ratchet means, whereby rotation of said pivoted frame automatically raises said arms a predetermined distance from said table.
