` SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,663, dated September 27, 1881.
Application filed July 21, 1881.
To all w/Lom it 'may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. LANEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the county of Fairfield and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Pumps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inVention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains 'to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to double sucker or lift pumps, and has for its object to provide an improved stock or casing for the invention' described in Letters Patent granted to me and numbered 242,140, bearing date May 31,1881.
It consists in a single tube or casing composed of an under cylinder, an upper cylinder arranged laterally to vand above the plane of the upper end of and in a Vertical line parallel with the lower cylinder, an intermediate crosspipe bent to connect the upper end of the lower cylinder with the lower end of the upper cylinder, a discharge end connected to and bent laterally from the upper end of the upper cylinder to a Vertical line midway between the two cylinders, and then carried vertically up- Ward, and provided with means for holding the Operating-layer, the Operating-level' pivoted` to the top of the discharge end of-the casing, and the 'piston-rods connected to the operating-lever on opposite sides of its pivotal con-l nection and carried downward into the cylinders through stuffing-boxes placed in the elbows or bends at the upper ends of the cylinders, and provided with the necessary pistous, all of which will be hereinafter fully described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a Vertical section; and Fig.3 is a portion of the upper end of the casing, showing a side View of the discharge-spout.
This improved pump-stock is composedof the four principal parts or sections, A, B, C, and D, which, when' united, as shown, make a continuous tube or casing adapted for a double sucker pump of the class shown in my Patent No.` 242,140.
O is the under or lower cylinder, to the upper end of which is connected the cross-pipe (No model.)
D, which is bent laterally to form an elbow, D', vertically above the cylinder. On the upper side of the elbow there is a pston-rod opening, e, which is'provided with a stuffingbox, e'.
The cross-pipe D is bent laterally and Vertically, as shown, so that it connects with the lower end of the cylinder B, as shown.
The cylinder B is placed laterally from and is arranged in a Vertical line parallel with the Vertical line drawn through the cylinder C,
and it is set above the plane of the upper end of the lower cylinder.`
The discharge end A of the pump-stock has its lower end connected to the upper end of the cylinder B, and is bent laterally into 'an elbow, A', on the upper side of which, and in line with the Vertical center of the cylinder, there is formed a piston-rod opening,f, which is provided with a suitable stuffing-box, The end A is carried laterally from the end of the cylinder B to a point or line midway between Vertical lines extended upward from the cylinders, and is then bent into a Vertical position land extended upward to a sufficient length, so that the operating-lever c can be pivoted on its top, as' shown. The upper end is coVered by a cap, A2, which is provided with lugs or jaws, to which the handle is piV- oted.
c is the handle, which is pivoted on the upperend of the section A, and is so arranged as to have its piVotal points h and 'i arranged on opposite sides of the pipe A and imrnediately over the cylinders B and C,andit is connected to the piston-rods a and b by links a' and b', as shown. The piston-rods a and Z) are carried down through the stufling-boxes' e' into the cylinders, and have fiXed to theirlower ends the pistons a2 112.
d is a rim or collar placed on the upper end of the cylinder B, and may be used to hold the stock in place on a suitable framing.
7a is a pipe connected to the lower end of the cylinder O when it is desired to reach the water in deep wells.
Suitable check-Valves may be arranged at the points marked l and m, and, if desired, a Valve could be inserted in the upper end of cylinder O, at a.
This pump-stock is construct-ed in the several parts described, which parts may be de- IOO tached for any desired purpose. It is a strong, durable, and cheap pump-stock,easy to handle and set iu any well.
