To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM BYRON, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.

This improvement relates particularly to bracelets made of vulcanite, india rubber, metal, or other sufliciently elastic material.

The object of the improvements is to dispense with the necessity for a hinge in such bracelets and yet afford them the necessary rigidity at those portions which are designed to embrace narrow sides of the wrist to insure theinremaining in proper position on the wrist.

A further object is to afford provision for making those portions which are designed to embrace narrow'sides of the wrist in a variety of ornamental shapes.

To this end the improvement consists in a bracelet consisting of one integral piece comprising separable ends made comparatively rigid at those portions which are designed to embrace the narrow sides of the wrist, and made sufliciently flexible at the back or intermediate portion to enable the ends to be separated to pass around the wrist. The portions which are designed to embrace the narrow sides of the wrist will serve to gripe the wrist and prevent the bracelet from expanding genorally and slipping too far up on the arm, and yet these portions and the separable ends of the bracelet may be spread apart, as on a hinge, by the bending of the flexible intermediate part. This flexible part may be produced by thinning the bracelet, and preferably it will be thinned gradually and made externally flat and internally convex, so as to properly distribute the strain occasioned by separating the ends of the bracelet, or, in other words, by

opening the bracelet.

The accompanying drawing represents an edge view of a bracelet embodying myimprovement.

This bracelet is designed to be made of vulcanite or India-rubber, metal, or of any other suitable material in one integral piece.

A designates the portions which are designed to bear on the narrow sides of the Wrist. They are comparatively rigid, or, in other words, cannot be easily bent, and are not intended to be bent. At one end they are connected by a more flexible and easily-bent portion, B, of which they form continuations. This more flexible portion is here shown as rendered flexible by being made thinner than the remainder of the bracelet, and it is preferably gradually thinned, so as to reduce its liability to break when bent. The other ends of the portions A terminate in separable ends 0, here shown as of ornamental form. These ends 0 may be madeof separate pieces and atfixed to the bracelet proper. This thinned flexible portion imparts an ornamental effect to the exterior of the bracelet when it is made flat, and the remainder of the bracelet, including the interior of said flexible portion,is made round, as shown.

The ends of this bracelet may be easily separated to place the bracelet on the wrist and remove it therefrom, and yet the rigid portions A will retain the bracelet in' proper position on the wrist.

As there is no need to make the parts of the bracelet which are designed to embrace the narrow sides of the wrist flexible, they may be made of various ornamental shapes.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. Abracelet consisting of one integral piece comprising separable ends made comparatively rigid at those portions which are designed to embrace the narrow sides of the wrist, and made sufficiently flexible at the back or intermediate portion to enable the ends to be separated to pass around the wrist, substantially as specified.

2. A bracelet consisting of one integral piece comprising separable ends made comparatively rigid at those portions which are designed to embrace the narrow sides of the wrist, and made sufficiently flexible at the back or intermediate portion by being thinner there, to enable the ends to be separated to pass around the wrist, substantially as specified.

3. Abracelet consisting of one integral piece thinner and with a flat exterior and convex comprising separable ends made comparatively interior at such portion, substantially as specirigid at those portions which are designed to fled.
