The present invention relates to an arrangement of such foldable sofas, particularly park sofas, which consist of two or more spaced stand parts connected to each other by means of seat and back boards.

The invention is principally characterized by the feature that each of the stand parts comprises a first stand member supporting the seat boards and forming a rear leg, a second stand member supporting the back boards and forming a fore leg, the second stand member being detachably connected to the first mentioned stand member, a support member swingably connected to the fore end of the seat supporting part of the stand member as well as to the lower end of that part of the second stand member, which forms the fore leg, the lower end of the support member being bent at about right angles, and locking means by aid of which the two stand members can be locked to each other in a position in which the two stand members cross each other, the two stand members and the support member having such lengths that by swinging the two stand members in the direction towards each other about the swinging points at the support member,

the top sides of the seat boards will rest against the front side of the fore legs, while the backwards directed sides of the support member will rest against the under side of the seat boards supporting part of the first-mentioned stand member. By means of this arrangement the sofa will be suitable for piling.

The invention will be described in detail in connection with the embodiment illustrated on the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 shows a sofa according to the invention, in side view and in unfolded position, while Fig. 2 in a similar manner illustrates the sofa in folded position.

Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line III-11]: of Fig. 2.

The sofa consists of two or more spaced stand members which are connected to each other by means of seat boards I and back boards 2. At the illustrated embodiment each stand member consists of a somewhat angularly bent T-iron 4 supporting the back boards 2 and forming a fore leg 3, and two mutually parallel L-irons 5 connected by means of one or more distance pieces l2, said L-irons serving as a hold for the seat boards I and forming also a rear leg 6. The distance between the two L-irons is thereby so chosen that the T-iron 4 can be moved forwards between the L-irons in such a manner that the edges of the horizontal flange of the T-iron will come to rest against the flanges of the L-irons which face each other. Adjacent to the place at which the T-iron 4 extends between the two L-irons 5 is provided a locking device, for instance a screw 1, passing through the L-irons 5, by means of which the L-irons can be clamped about the T-iron, thereby locking this in a desired position in relation to the L-irons.

Between the fore end of the L-irons 5 supporting the seat boards I and the lower end of the fore leg 3 a support member 8 is provided, which is made for instance of a T-iron, said member being swingably journalled about the pivot 9 at the L-irons 5 as well as about the pivot II] at the leg 3. The support member 8 is, as shown on the drawing, L-shaped bent in such a way that the length of the lower shorter part will substantially correspond to the thickness of the seat boards I. The support member 8 is preferably journalled on the pivot 9 by means of a bushing I3 welded to the support member.

At the folding of the sofa the locking bolt 1 is loosened and the part consisting of the L-irons 5 and the part made of the T-iron 4 are swung in the direction towards each other about the pivots 9 and In respectively located at the support member 8. As clearly shown on Fig. 2 the top-sides of the seat boards will rest against the front side of the fore leg 3, while the support member 8 will be pushed in between the two L-irons 5 directly under the seat boards I, which is made possible by the angular shaped forming of the support member 8.

The folded sofa will thereby become particularly compact and adapted for piling. At the embodiment illustrated a locking bolt II is also provided adjacent to the place at which the support member 8 protrudes between the L-irons 5, whereby the latter irons can be clamped about the support member 8 and thereby further securing the sofa in unfolded position.

Preferably, the bearing bolt 9 is welded to the L-irons 5 and forms a distance piecebetween these.

The invention is of course not limited to the illustrated and described embodiment, but can be varied in many different ways within the scope of the invention.

Having now particularly described the nature of my invention and the manner of its operation what I claim is:

l. A foldable sofa consisting of at least two spaced stand parts connected to each other by means of seat and back boards, each of said stand parts comprising a first stand member having a nearly horizontal portion supporting said seat boards and a downwardly extending rear section of the first named portion forming a rear leg, a second vertical rearwardly inclined stand member supporting said back boards and forming a fore leg, said second stand member being detachably connected to the rear end of the seat supporting portion of said first mentioned stand member, a support member swingably connected to the fore end of the seat supporting part of said first-mentioned stand member as well as to the lower end of that part of said second stand member which forms the fore leg, the lower end of said support member being bent at about right angles, and locking means by aid of which said two stand members can be locked to each other in a position in which said two stand members cross each other, said two stand members and said support member having such lengths that by swinging said two stand members in the direction towards each other about the swinging points at said support member the top-sides of said seat boards will rest against the front side of the fore legs, while the backwardly facing side of said support member will rest against the underside of the seat boards supporting part of the first-mentioned stand member.

A foldable sofa as claimed in claim 1, and in which said stand member supporting said back boards and forming a fore leg is made by a T-iron, the Web of said T-iron beingdirected backwards, while the other of said two stand members is made of two L-irons grasping said T-iron, the flanges of said L-irons which face each other being clamped by aid of said locking means to the edges of the horizontal flange of said T-iron.

A foldable sofa as claimed in claim 1, and in which said stand member supporting said back boards and forming a fore leg is made by a T- iron, the Web of said T-iron being directed backwards, while the other of said two stand members is made of two L-irons grasping said T-iron, the flanges of said L-irons which face each other being clamped by aid of said locking means to the edges of the horizontal flange of said T-iron, said support member being made of a T-iron, the web of which is turned backwards, said T-iron being swung between said L-irons when the sofa is folded.

4. A foldable sofa as claimed in claim 1, and in which said locking means consists of a bolt which can be tightened and which is passing through said stand member supporting said seat boards and forming a rear leg, said bolt being located behind the other of said two stand members.

5. A foldable sofa as claimed in claim 1, and in which said locking means consists of two bolts which can be tightened and which are passing through said stand member supporting said seat boards and forming a rear leg, one of said bolts being located behind the other of said two stand members, while the other of said bolts is located in front of said support member.

6. A foldable sofa as claimed in claim 1, and in which at least one distance piece is provided for fixation of the distance of said stand partsfrom each other.
