Now referring to the specic structure oi the throttle valve per se, it Will be noted that the throttle valve l5 has a port 29 (see Figs. l and 4) for connecting the valve interior 20 with a chamber 38 communicating with the inlet passages of the hammer motor 3. The throttle valve has a port 3l (Fig. 5) for connecting the hollow interior 2li of the throttle valve with a circumferentially extending groove 32 on the valve periphery, and this groove is communicable with a feed supply passage 33 leading to the feeding means. The throttle valve has a port 34 communicating with a peripheral groove 35 which is communicable with a passage 36 leading to the lubricator of the drill. Extending longitudinally along the exterior periphery of the throttle valve are shallow' lubricantgrooves 3l and 38 communicating at the upper ends with an annular groove 39, and lubricant may flow through these grooves to lubricate the walls of the valve receiving bore I3 in an obvious manner. The groove 38 communicates with a peripheral groove 39 which is communicable with the motor in the passage Sil. As shown in Fig. 7, rotary movement of the throttle valve l5 is limited by a spring-pressed detent element 49 projecting within a peripheral groove di on the valve. A screw plug 2 holds the spring 43 under compression and is removable to obtain access to the parts. This detent element serves to hold the throttle valve in its different position of adjustment.
As a result of this invention an improved throttle valve mechanism is provided having a novel valve and handle construction whereby operation of the valve is facilitated. By the provision of the valve piston in the bore of the throttle valve handle, the pressure acting on the lower end of the throttle valve is opposed, resulting in a smaller net upward longitudinal thrust on the valve, so that the valve may be easily turned and at the same time the valve handle is held upwardly in position against its upper bearing. By the provision of the longitudinally spaced bearings at the opposite ends or the valve handle, the mounting of the valve is improved, and, by the arrangement ci the handle longitudinally at one side of the drill, the valve may be readily operated. Other advantages of the invention will be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art.
While there is in this application specically described one form which the invention may assume in practice, it will be understood that this form of the same is shown for purposes of illustration and that the invention may be modied and embodied in various other forms Without departing from its spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
