3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in brush holders, and more particularly to brush holders for draining paint brushes and the like.
The primary feature of the present invention is to provide a brush holder adapted for conveniently positioning a brush over a container so that said brush may drain properly into the container.
Another important feature of the present invention is to provide a device of the character referred to which is detachably mounted upon a vessel such as a paint bucket and including a pivotal arm which permits the brush to be positioned in and out of the vessel.
A further feature of the present invention is to provide a brush holder including adjustable clamping means for receiving various sized brush handles.
A still further feature of the present invention is to provide a device of the class described that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, showing my improved brush support in use and mounted in position to a bucket or vessel.
Figure 2 is a slightly reduce-d top plan view of Figure 1 with the brushes removed therefrom.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 33 thereof.
Referring now to the drawings, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, we have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral 5 represents a substantially inverted U- shaped member which fits over the upper edge of a bucket or vessel 6 and is fixed thereto by a set screw 7 carried by the outer arm of the member 5.
Welded or otherwise suitably secured to the upper end of member 5 is a substantially U- shaped bracket 8 having a fixed shaft 9 extending between its upstanding ends.
The holder designated generally by the numeral Ill comprises a pair of substantially inverted L-shaped parallel arms ll connected at their upper out-turned ends which are looped as at 12 around shaft 9 to permit vertical swinging movement of the holder.
The lower ends of the arms II are turned inwardly, as at 13, to provide a pair of crenulated jaws M which are connected by a locking ring l5 adjustable on said jaws to tighten the jaws 2 against the handle it of a paint brush or the like I1.
The holder may be swung outwardly to facilitate accessibility to the paint brush when so desired. However, normally the brush will be positioned in the vessel so as to allow the drippings of the brush to pass into the vessel.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a body detachably mounted on the vertical edge of a receptacle, a horizontally positioned shaft carried by the body, a pair of substantially inverted L shaped arms pivoted at one end to the shaft, and a pair of gripping jaws integrally formed at the lower ends of said arms for receiving a brush handle.
2. A brush holder comprising a body detachably mounted on the vertical edge of a receptacle, a shaft carried by said'body, a plurality of substantially inverted U-shaped arms pivotally mounted on said shaft, a pair of gripping jaws integrally formed with each of said arms, and means for adjusting said gripping jaws to clampingly support a brush handle.
3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said gripping jaws are crenulated and said means for adjusting said gripping jaws to clampingly support a brush handle includes a locking ring slidably carried by said gripping jaws.
