3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to improvements in womens hat boxes.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved hat box construction for womens hats with separate compartments in which a number of hats may be kept so as to prevent crushing, particularly in traveling.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved hat box construction which will include a plurality of radially extending compartments for storing hats to prevent them from being damaged by crushing when being moved from place to place when traveling.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hat box with a main or full size compartment in the lower portion, and with a plurality of radially extending compartments removably supported above said main compartment.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved multi-compartment hat box which will be highly eflicient in use and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds. I
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application:
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view through the improved hat box;
Figure 2 is a plan View looking into the open top of the hat box;
Figure 3 is a plan view looking down on the removable sectional compartment shelf or tray;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a partial plan view looking down on the removable tray;
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the partition members of the multi-compartment tray, and
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on 'I-'-I of Figure 5.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved hat box I substantially circular in shape, and having a top 2 therefor with depending flange 3, said top or closure 2 being hinged at 4 to the upper edge of the box body I, and having a snap fastener 5 diametrically opposed to said hinge.
An annular inwardly extending flange seat 6 is formed integrally within the hat box body I about its inner wall substantially midway of the as line 2 depth of said body I, and is adapted to support a removable multiple compartment shelf.
The multiple compartment shelf comprises a disk shaped bottom 1 and an upstanding centrally disposed hub member 8 to which four radially extending partitions 9 are integrally connected and spaced at ninety degrees apart and are also formed with the oppositely extending locking shoulders Ill. Four removable partitions II having oppositely disposed arcuate locking flanges I2 formed on their inner ends will be removably and slidably supported between the adjacent locking shoulders II] on adjacent fixed partitions 9, as clearly shown in the drawings, and will be disposed ninety degrees apart and equally spaced from the fixed partitions 9, whereby either four compartments may be provided when the removable partitions I I are removed, or if desired, the said partitions II may be replaced to provide eight smaller hat compartments in which several hats may be kept.
The main compartment I3 formed in the lower half of the hat box body I will be utilized for storing extra large hats, or may be used to carry other articles of wear if desired. A suitable handle III will be secured to the outer surface of the hat box body I.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been provided an improved multiple compartment hat box which will be highly eflicient in use.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the'invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A hat box having a hollow body formed with an inwardly extending annular flange seat about its inner wall, a cover therefor, a removable multiple compartment hat receiving tray seated on said flange seat, said tray comprising a diskshaped base having a central upstanding hub member and interconnected radially extending partitions formed integrally therewith, and a plurality of radially extending partitions removably supported between said first mentioned partition.
2. A hat box having a hollow body formed with an inwardly extending annular flange seat about its inner wall, a cover therefor, a removable multlple compartment hat receiving tray seated on 3 said flange seat, said tray comprising a diskshaped base having a central upstanding hub member and interconnected radially extending partitions formed integrally therewith, oppositely extending locking shoulders formed on said partitions, and a plurality of removable partitions having arcuate flanges on their inner ends adapted to be. slis ah y ved. x sai lockin shoulders,
4 extending partitions supported solely by said hub member and base of the tray.
