Description
Dec. 14, 1948.
J. lRLING CURTAIN ROD SUPPORT I Filed .Sept. 19, 1944- Patented Dec. 14-, 1948 T;
li'lliy invention relates -tocurtain rod suppers, may "e utilized for hanging draper es', curta s and lie like.- I I v 1 important-object of my invention is to; providewmodified form of-window *cas'ing and framework adapted to hold removably curtain rod supporting brackets, one or more thereof, and a curtain rod in combination therewith cradled in the said curtain bracket supports.
Another important object of my invention is to provide a novel curtain rod structure which is made up of two cylindrical rod elements adjustably secured within a tubular cylindrical element, made up from a sheet of material wound spirally to the desired thickness and form, an adhesive substance being utilized to maintain the same'in rigid formation for the purposes heretofore mentioned.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the aforementioned character which is practical in construction, useful and efficient in its functions and of such simple construction that it may be manufactured economically in quantity production.
Other features, objects and advantages inherent in my invention will become apparent from an examination of the accompanying drawing having particular reference to the ensuing description, wherein like symbols are used to designate like parts and in which:
Fig. 1 represents a broken and fragmentary view of a window casing to which my invention is removably secured.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view looking in the direction of the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 is a transversal cross-sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure l.
The construction, preferably, needed for my invention is, namely, a modified window casing structure generally designated 6, and provided with a slotted portion l3 so as to provide a groove between a supporting wall 5 and the recessed portion 13. The said window casing has its lower portion connected to the usual sill structure I4 and is provided with a window pane retaining structure l8 for retaining the window pane [9.
The curtain rod and its supporting structure is indicated in the various views and is comprised of two brackets, generally, designated 1, each bracket being provided with a recessed flange portion 22 providing a recess for slidably engaging the tongue 20 on the window casing structure 6. The bracket I is constructed in the form of an oUnrmNaOD .S ii ffiiiii 1 i f V Joseph lrling, amateur implication September 19, ref r A 23mm. (01. at
slotted er able suppo'frtthe roller' or rod structure? gener= ally, designated l5. The brackets are slidably and adjustably positioned as to their respective central distances by virtue of their engagement on the tongue 20, and are secured in place by virtue of thumb screws l0 threaded into the window casing 6 and adapted to be rotated within an angular distance of locking the brackets when the head of the locking screws I0 is at right angles with the elongated slotted portion 9, and when in co-axial alignment therewith will permit the said bracket to be removed from engagement with the casing tongue 20.
The roller or rod support is, preferably, of two wooden rod sections it and a tubular cylindrical element I! made by rolling a strip of paper of suitable length; winding it in spiral formation and utilizing adhesive means between layers in order to securely hold the same when wound.
The combined assembly [5 may be adjusted for length by pushing together the rod elements IE or pulling them apart in which event the rod structure is either reduced in size or elongated.
The brackets 1 furnish a further degree of adjustment in permitting them to be slidably positioned on the tongue 20 ofthe window casing 6, and they are held removably in place, as heretofore mentioned by the head of the lock screws ill.
The rod extensions l6 are cradled rotatably in the slotted portion l2 after the curtain 2| provided with a suitable hem is threaded on to the rod assembly l5.
It is, particularly, my desire to stress the rather novel construction of a curtain rod support made of cheap material such as paper and having the simple rod structures l6 made of wood or metal which may be frictionally and adjustably secured thereto. This rod structure may be utilized also for mounting draperies thereon which are usually provided with hooks or rings for attaching the same to a support.
Altho, I have, herein, described and revealed my invention, and inasmuch as I feel that it is susceptible of modifications, and improvements, I hereby reserve the right to all modifications and improvements coming within the scope and spirit of my invention as disclosed, and also such modifications coming within the purview of the foregoing description; my invention to be limited only to the appended claims.
Having thus disclosed and described my inventioii, what 1 claim as novel and desire totsecure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described bracket means provided with lip portions adapted to engage slidably and removably a tongue portion of thetop edge of a window casing, and further provided with vertical extensions having open recesses with semi-circular bottom portions, and curtain rod support means cradled within the said open recesses, the said curtain rod support means comprising, a central tubular element, and two rod elements adjustably and frictionally secured to the said tubular element.
2. In a device of the character described bracket means provided with lip portions adapted to engage slidably and removably a tongue portion of the top edge of a window casing, and further provided with vertical extensions having open recesses with semi-circular bottom portions, and adjustable curtain rod support means cradled within the said open recesses, the said bracket means also provided with elongated slots, and thumb screws secured to the said window casing cooperating with said elongated slots to hold releasably the said bracket means, the said adjustable ourtain rod support means comprising, a central tubular element consisting of a sheet of flexible material spirally rolled and impregnated in an adhesive substance, and two rod elements adjustably and frictionally secured to the said tubular element.
