It has been found desirable to support the rods in screens of this type intermediate their ends in a manner to sprin the rods upwardly so that they tend to remain in a position and tightly pressed against. the rod end supports by their own resilience, the ends being seated in sockets in the screen; frame.
One of the problems encountered in such screens is the difiiculty of replacement of rods due in the necessity of holding the rods inflexed condition while inserting them endwise into their corres onding sockets, and in operation, the socket s tend to become excessively worn and the rods loosened.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved rod deck scr'eerist'ru ctu're' in which the rod ends may be firmly clamped in position to prevent their becoming loosened by wean Another object is to provide suclra screen structure in which. insertion-of the rods is simplified by means providing for the opening of a large slot in the rod: end supporting member into which a rod end may be readily inserted and means, to clamp the rod firmly in place after insertion.

' With clamping bar 6 inreleased position, the screen surface maybe readily formed by inserting the'ends of rods 1' in sockets l I, then indi vidually flexing rods 1' to" shorten them-sufficiently to enable the freeends to be inserted under the opposing ledge 8. The rod ends may be moved laterally to engage the proper seat in a groove 13"; Afterinsertlon of all rods I clamping bar 6 is moved into clamping engagement with the rod ends by hand bar [1 and retained in clamping relation by ratchet mechanism I8, or-other suitable mechanism.
Preferably, steel wearing plates H with sockets -ll of limited depth'are used at the end of the screen surface ltowards which material is meant to move over the screen, thus fixing the rods 5 against movement in that direction. This provides an almost indestructible socket at one end, while at the feed end, towards which there is no tendencyforthe rods 1 to move, the rod ends are receivable in a broad opening slot when the clamp bar 6 is relaxed, and are firmly clamped in spaced relation in grooves l3 when the clampingbar 6 is tightenedi" It will be readily understood that this inven tion provides a simple, durable and easily re paired screen,- andthat, while specific structure has been described and illustrated, the invention is not limited to the precise structure so described and illustrated, but is intendedto include such equivalents as may occur to persons skilled in the art to which it appertainswithin the scope of the appended claims.
It. is claimed and desired to secure byLetters Patent:
1. A parallel rod material separatingscreen comprising a rigid rectangular frame, laterally spaced pairs ofalined sockets in opposed faces of a pair of parallel frame members, said sockets having downwardly facing individual rod end receiving seats, a plurality of separate substantially rectilinear spring metalrodseach having its extreme ends seated individually in an alined pair of said sockets, and a clamping bar operatively mounted on saidframe adjacent and parallel to one'of said socketed frame members for moveclamping bar operatively mounted on said frame adjacent and parallelto one of said socketed frame members for movement into engagement with the lower surfaces of said rods adjacent their ends to clamp said rods upwardly against said seats, said clamping bar being cylindrical in form and having end extensions eccentric thereto journaled in said frame and clamping bar adjusting mechanism on said frame operatively engaging said extensions to move said bar angularly relative to the axis of said extensions in clamping and unclamping relation to said rods. 3. Means for supporting the ends of a plurality of parallel rods in laterally spaced relation comprising a frame, a frame bar having a plurality of laterally spaced parallel grooves in an under surface thereof, a cylindrical clamping bar eccentrically journaled in said frame for angular movement in parallel relation towards and away from said under surface of said frame bar to clamp said rod ends firmly in said grooves and means for holding said clamping bar in clamp ing relation. v I
4. Means for supporting the ends of a plurality of parallel rods in laterally spaced relation-come prising a frame, a frame bar having a plurality of laterally spaced parallel grooves in an undersurface thereof, a cylindrical clamping bar 'eccentrically j-ournaled in said frame for angular move ment in parallel relation towards and awayfrom said under surface of said frame bar to clamp said rod ends firmly in said grooves, said clamping bar having a sleeve like rubber cover thereon and rotatable on the axis of said bar to selectively present different wearing surfaces to said under surface, and means for holding said clamping bar in clamping relation.
5. A parallel rod material separating screen comprising a rigid rectangular frame, laterally spaced pairs of alined individual rod end receiving sockets in opposed faces of a pair of parallel frame members, said sockets having rod end engaging seat portions generally in the plane of said frame and facing the same side of said plane, a camber bar in said frame parallel to and spaced intermediate said socketed frame members andhav ing a rod supporting surface facing in'a direction opposite that in which said seat portions of said sockets face, a plurality of separate generally rectilinear flexible resilient rods each having'its opposite ends individually, seated in an alined pair of said sockets and its intermediate portion sprung over said rod supporting surface of said camber bar, the location of said rod supporting surface of said camber bar relative to the plane of said seat portions of saidsockets beingsq chosen with relation to the normal unstressed 5 6 form and thickness of said rods that said rods REFERENCES CITED f i s 2???? 5 59 23? lmder The following references are of record in the e as 10 s ress w 0 en s 0 re am em 1n pos file of this patent:
