2 3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined envelope and writing sheet.
More particularly the invention proposes an improved combined envelope and writing sheet which when in an open condition appears little difierent from a conventional writing sheet. However, it is provided with certain innovations which makes it possible to fold and seal it in a novel manner. An envelope is not required. An improved feature of the article resides in the simple way in which it may be opened by the receiver.
Still further the invention proposes a new and improved combined envelope and writing sheet as briefly explained which may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
. of said sheet after said bottom section is folded upon said top section. These two longitudinal score lines or folds l2 and II divide off or form a central section it and two side sections H, as clearlyshown in Fig. 3.
A line of perforations it extends transversely 4 across the top portion of the sheet II at a dis- For further comprehension of the invention,
and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the combined envelope and writing sheet illustrated in, an opened up condition and viewed from the outer side.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the article shown in Fig. 1 viewed from the inner side.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the article partially folded.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the article in its completely folded and sealed condition.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view similar to Fig. 4 but illustrating the article in the process of being opened up.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a combinedenvelope and writing sheet constructed in accordance with a modified form of this invention, this sheet being viewed from the outer side.
Fig. 'I is a fragmentary elevational view looking in the direction of the line 1-1 of Fig. 6 but illustrated with the top portion of the sheet bent down. a
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the article shown in Fig. 6 in its completely closed and sealed condition.
The new and improved combined envelope and writing sheet in accordance with that form of the invention disclosed in Figs. 1 to 5, includes a rectangular sheet ll of paper having a transverse score line or fold II a short distance below the center of its long dimension for guiding folding tance beneath the top edge equal, or substantially equal, to the distance that said transverse score line or fold II is offset from the center of the long dimension of'said sheet 'II for dividing off a top strip portion II. This top strip portion I. has a central section and side sections 2| which are defined by said longitudinal score lines or folds i2 and i2.
A tab 2: with adhesive material 2: upon its 'Adh'esive material 25 is disposed upon the front face of the side section 2| of said top strip portion ll which is adjacent the tab 22. Additional adhesive 20- is disposed upon the back face of the side section 2i of the top strip portion II which is remote from the tab 22. The top portion I! has the outer face of its central section it imprinted with a box 22 or other indication for a postage stamp. .It is also imprinted with several guide lines 20 to facilitate the writing of a name and address. The tab 22 is provided with a line of perforations 2| at its base for facilitating tearing when required.
The operation and use of the combined envelope and writing sheet may be understood from the following:
The sheet ll is sold in its open condition. The purchaser may write a letter or other material upon the inside face. Then it mag be folded along the transverse fold or score line If: Next it is folded along the score lines i2 and if as indicated in Fig. 3. The side sections I! should now be so placed that the adhesive materials 25 and 26 are adjacent each other. This permits pasting or sealing of the article. The adhesive 22 on the tab 22 is sealed over the adjacent portion of the folded article. when completely closed and sealed, it looks as illustrated in Fig. 4. In this condition it may be sent through the mails. The receiver may open the article by tearing the right hand edge portion along the line of perforations 3, a II. In this way the strip is isremoved. Then the tab 22 is torn along the perforation 30.. The sheet III is now free to be opened up.
- In Figs. 6 to '8 inclusive, a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the prior form'but distinguishing in two ways.
In this form the sheet I is provided with several tabs 22 so that'the article may be securely sealed.
The sheet I0 is also provided with a top strip portion it which is divided by a transverse score line or fold 34' into an outer section 3! and an inner section 36; The outer section 35 is provided with adhesive 26 covering oneof the side sections ll of the sheet 10. The inner section It of-the strip portion I9 is provided with adhesive 2 covering the other section II of the sheet ll.
2. In a combined envelope writing sheet having a sheet of paper formed with a transverse score line along which the sheet can be folded substantially in half and spaced longitudinal score lines along which the sheet can be folded substantially in thirds after being folded in half, a strip'portion along one end of the sheet, a line of perforations dividing said strip portion from the sheet. a score line dividing said strip portion into an inner section and an outer section and along which said strip portion may be folded in half to superimpose said outer section on the In other respects this form of the invention is identical to the prior form and like parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals.
The operation and use of this form of the invention is substantially identical to the prior form distinguishing in that the sheet 10 may be folded on the transverse score or fold line 34 so as to place the adhesive Hand 26 on opposite faces of the sheet I0 similar to the location of the corresponding adhesive in the prior form of the invention. Now the sheet may be folded and sealed in the same way as before described. The advantage of the second form of the invention resides in the fact that the adhesive and 20 is applied upon one face of the sheet l0. In the first form it was required to. be placed on two faces.
While Ihave illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United 1 States Letters Patent is:
1; In a combined envelope and writing sheet having a sheet of paper formed with a transverse score line along which the sheet can be foldedsubstantially in half and spaced longitudinal score lines along which the sheet can be folded substantially in thirds after being folded in half, a
inner face of said inner section, and spaced adhesive areas on the outer face of said strip section. one at the end of said outer section and the other at the opposite 'end of said inner section, whereby when the sheet is folded in half. said strip portion may be folded in half and the sheet may then be folded into thirdsto superimpose said adhesive areas to be used to seal the sheet folded, said line of perforations'and said score line of said strip portion being arranged parallel to each other'and transverse of the sheet.
3. In a combined envelope and writing sheet having a, sheet of paper formed with a transverse score line along which the sheet can'be folded strip portion along one end of the sheet, a line may then be folded into thirds to superimpose said adhesive areas to be used to seal the sheet folded.
substantially in half and spaced longitudinal score lines along which the sheet can be.-folded substantially in thirds after being folded in half, a strip portion along one end of the sheet, a line of perforations dividing said strip portion from the sheet, a score line dividing said strip portion into an inner section and an outer section and along which said strip portion may be folded in half to superimpose said outer section on the inner face of said inner section, and spaced adhesive areas on the outerface of said strip section, one at the end of said outer section and the other at the opposite end of said inner section, whereby when the sheet is folded in half, said strip portion may be folded in half and the sheet may then be folded into thirds to superimpose said adhesive areas'to be used to seal the sheet folded, and spaced sealing tabs formed along the side'of the sheet adjacent the end of said outer section formed with said one adhesive area.
