Description

Aug. 3, 1948. L. F cRAMER 2,446,214 I CABINET FOR TELEVISION RECEIVERS Filed Aug. 21, 1945' v INVENTOR man/($1M 4AM FITTORNEY Patented Aug. 3, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CABINET FOR TELEVISION RECEIVERS Application August 21, 1945, SerialNo. 611,707
Claims. 1
This invention relates to a cabinet for a television -receiver, which has a top that can readily be opened and closed so that when it is closed thetop thereof presents a smooth flat surface upon which objects may be placed.
The top of the cabinet comprises two separate mating portions that open in opposite directions. One of these portions supports on its lower side an adjustable mirror and the other one supports on its lower side the television receiver, so that the video portion of the television program can be simultaneously seen by a group of people in different positions and the sound can be heard by them when the hinged portions are opened.
The mirror is mounted on a universal joint and placed in such a location that it can reflect pictures that appear on the television screen in different directions in accordance with the positions to which this mirror is adjusted.
The invention may be understood from the description in connection with the accompanying drawing, .in which:
' Fig. 1 is a side view of an illustrative embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view; and
Fig.3 is an end view of the same.
In the drawing; reference character l indicatesa base that mayrest upon the floor. The cabinet 2 for; the television receiver is mounted onthe base I. A cover 3 is hinged by means of the hinge 4 to the top of the cabinet near one end thereof and a knob or handle 4' is provided on the cover 3 near the end opposite the hinge 4.
A support 5 for a television receiver 6 is securely attached to the lower'side of the cover 3. A strap 1 is pivoted by pin 8 to the edge of the cover 3 for supporting this cover in its open position. Two straps may be pivoted on opposite edges for this purpose, when needed.
A support 9 is hinged at ID to the top of. the cabinet 2 for supporting a mirror II which is mounted on this support by means of a hinge [2 of the ball-and-socket or other type of universal hinge. A knob or handle I3 is provided on the support 9 for turning it on the hinge I 0. v
A series of control buttons I4 is provided on the top of the cabinet for turning on power and tuning the receiver. A rectangular opening I5 is provided through the top of the cabinet 2. It is not quite so wide as the cover 3 or support 9 so that the lateral edges of this cover and support will rest upon the edges of this opening when they are in their horizontal or closed positions,
An opening I6 is provided through the front end of the cabinet 2 and is covered by cloth H. A loud speaker I8 is installed in the cabinet 2 in proximity to the opening H5.
The base I of the cabinet may be placed on casters or rollers for facilitating changing or moving the cabinet to difierent places when desired.
What is claimed is:
1. A cabinet for a television receiver having an opening at the upper end thereof,a cover hinged along an edge of said opening terminating short of the opposite edge of said opening and having a pivoted strap along an edge thereof, a support hinged at one edge thereof along the opposite edge of said opening and having a portion that operates as a stop when said support is turned to an upright position, said cover and support being adapted to close said opening, a television receiver supported upon the under side of said cover and a mirror adiustably supported upon the under side of said support.
2. The device of claim 1 in which the width of said cover and support are sufilcient to enable side edges thereof to overlap the side edges of said opening when they close said opening.
3. The device of claim 1 in which said television receiver is supported on the lower side of said cover parallel to said cover.
4. The device of claim 1 in which a mirror is supported on the lower side of said support by means of a universal joint.
5. The device of claim 1 in which said pivoted strap is adapted to have its free end rest upon the top of said receiver when said cover is in its open position.
