COMPOSITION FOR PRESERVING WOOD;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,327, dated July 12, 1881.
Application filed April 21, 1881. (N0 specimens.)
and this mixture is added to the coal-tar, and
the Whole is then again thoroughly mixed. This compound is gentlyheated, but is not permitted to boil.
v The Wood to be treated is placed in some suitable vessel which is filled with the compound, so that the wood is completely immersed in the same. The wood remains in this compound until it is completely saturated.
The above-described compound can also be used to paint wood with.
- The compound is to be used to preserve all kinds of wood, in or above the ground, but is especially adapted for preserving wood in salt water from the ravages of Worms, barnacles, 850., and will be found to be of great service for ships bottoms, piles, caissons, piers, 860.
Having thus fully described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The within-described compound for preservin g wood, consisting of coal-tar, crude carbolic acid, and crude pyroligneons acid, in the proportions specified.
