The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in typewriters, and more particularly to an attachment for reinking the ribbon of the typewriter.

An important object'l of the presen-t invention is to provide a ribbon-reinking attachment adapted to be easily and quickly secured in a desired position on the typewriter for reinking the ribbon thereof without necessitating a removal of the ribbon or disturbing any of the working mechanism of the typewriterl A further object of the invention is to provide a ribbon-reinking attachment of this character embodying a pair of inking pads between which the ribbon is adapted to pass for reinking opposite sides thereof, together with means to facilitate' the removal and replacement of the pads, when desired.

A still further object'of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and'attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and'in which:

Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing the attachment in posi-tion on a part of a typewriter.

Figure 2 is a top plan view.

Figure 3 is a front elevational view.

Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on a line 4--4 of Figure 3.

Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on a line 5-5 of Figure 4.

Referring now to the drawing, in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention; the numeral 5 designates a spring clip constructed of any suitable resilient material and including a lower leg S of strap or ribbon form and an upper leg 'I of increased width to provide a relatively broad base having rounded circumferential edges.

A pair of pad holders are shown at 8 and 9, the pad holders being of substantially tray form adapted for holding the inking pads I and I I, respectively.

The pad holder 8 is welded, soldered, or otherwise flxedly secured in an upright .position on the base 'I with its pad I 0 exposed at one side thereof and the pad holder 9 is likewise supported in an upright position in a substantially U-shaped bracket I 2 which is also welded, soldered or otherwise fixedly secured on the base 1 with its spaced parallel legs I3` projecting in a direction toward the pad holder 8, as shown more clearly in Figure of the drawings. (Cl. 197-171) 2 mov-ably positioned in the bracket I2 with its pad il opposed to the pad Ii) and in slightly spaced relation therefrom to enable a typewriter ribbon le to travel therebetween.

The clip 5 is attached to the edge of a suitable part I5 of the typewriter, such as a cover piate for the type, and the relatively broad base I enables the clip to swing from side to side on the edge of the plate I5 to properly position the pads Ill and II so that the ribbon I4 may travel across the opposed faces of the pads.

When i-t is desired to remove the pads I0 and il to replace the same, or replenish the supply of ink therein, the holder 9 is removed from the bracket I2 and the pad Il may thus be removed from its holder and at the same time the pad lil is exposed for convenient removal from its holder 8.

` It is believedthat the details of construction, manner of use and advantages of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.

It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, the Same is susceptible of certain changes fully cornprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described, and the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

In a ribbon re-inking attachment` for typewriters, the combination of inking pads and a U- shaped spring clip wherein said inking pads comprise rectangular shaped bro-us elements adapted for being impregnated with ink for transfer of the ink to a ribbon passing between the pads, surrounding rectangular shaped cup-like trays in which the said pads are friction-ally held, one of said trays being fixedly mounted on one of the arms of the spring clip, and means removably mounting the other of said 4trays on the said arm of the spring clip with an exposed face of a pad therein spaced from and parallel to a complementary face of ra pad in said Xedly mounted tray.
