Description
April 20, 1948. J, K|ND 2,440,099
. sQuEEGEE wTTE BLADE-HOLDING GRIP RESPONSIVE To HANDLE SETTING Filed sept. 2:5, 1944 Patented Apr. 20, 1948 SQUEEGEE WITH BL RESPONSIVE T 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a window cleaning squeegee.
More specifically, it is proposed to provide a squeegee for cleaning windows, the device being provided with a stationary jaw and a jaw. pivotally mounted withn respect to the stationary jaw, the jaws cooperating to hold a rubber blade therebetween.
Still further, it is proposed to provide a squeegee as aforesaid having a spring for normally yieldably forcing the pivoted jaw toward the stationary jaw whereby the rubber blade is iirmly clamped therebetween.
Another object of the invention is to provide a squeegee of the aforesaid type having a blade provided with four wiping edges, any one of which may be employed when desired.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth,
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure- Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a squeegee holder constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section view, thereof, enlarged.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the same.
The construction shown includes a body 22 having an internally screw threaded socket 20' in one end thereof, and a rigid jaw I3 extending from the opposite end thereof near one side at an inclination toward the opposite side.
The body is also provided with an internal opening 24 which provides a longitudinal chamber for the coil spring 28, which is designed to exert end pressure against the disc 25, and against the short arm II of the lever 23, which is provided with a long arm I3", which forms a, movable jaw for clamping the squeegee blade I9 against the fixed jaw I3'. The lever 23 is pivoted on the pin I on the body 22 and the short arm II is formed with an integral stud pin 21, which extends through the coil spring 28 and through an eccentric opening 26 in the disc 25.
A handle 2|' is screw threaded into the internally threaded socket 20 and when fully threaded is adapted to engage the inner end of the stud pin 21 and force the short lever arm II' forwardly, and thereby increase the gripping pressure of the long lever arm I3" on the squeegee blade I9.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be ADE -HOLDING GRIP HANDLE SETTING Jacob Kind, Astoria, Long' Island, N. Y. `Application September 23, 1944, Serial No. 555,435
understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having' thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
l. A sdueegee comprising a member having an internally screw threaded socket opening at one end of the member and provided with a longitudinal passage disposed eccentrically of said socket and extending away from said screw threaded socket, said member being provided with a rigid jaw extending laterally of said member on both sides thereof and forwardly of said member, a movable lever pivotally supported in said member and provided with a movable jaw disposed in opposition to said rigid jaw and including a lever arm movable in said passage, a rigid stem on said lever arm projecting through the passage, a stop in said member disposed at the inner end of said passage through which the rigid stem projects, and a screw threaded handle engaging the screw threaded socket and adapted to bear against said stem to provide clamping pressure by said movable jaw to clamp a squeegee member against said rigid jaw.
2. The construction set forth in claim 1, including a coil spring disposed between said lever arm and said stop to move said movable jaw to clamping position against said rigid jaw.
JACOB KIND.
