1 Claim.
,This invention relates to a garment hanger, the prime purpose of which is to provide a means of adjusting the clothes engaging members so that different sizes can be accommodated.
An object of my invention is to provide a novel garment hanger which will support either ladies dresses, or mens trousers, the clothes engaging members being horizontally adjustable to ac- I Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my garment hanger.
Figure 2 is an end view of engaging members.
Figure 3 is a side view of a slightly modified form of hanger.
Figure 4 is an end view of a modified form of garment engaging member.
' Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral l indicates a substantial horizontal bar which is substantially rectangular in crosssection. A hook 2 is attached to the bar I at the center thereof for the garment hanger. members 3 and 4 are one of the garment A pair of clothes engaging slideably mounted on the bar l. Each of these clothes engaging members consists of a pair of plates 5 and 6, each plate being notched, as shown at 'l, to fit over the bar I, and the upper portion of the notch receives a dog 8 which is pivotally attached to the plates 5 and 6. The dog out in the top of the bar I. The clothes engaging member thus may be adjusted horizontally on the bar and held in adjusted position. A spring I!) holds the dog 8 in engagement with the rack 9. Arcuate surfaced, or clothes engaging members, II and I2, are formed, or mounted,
the purpose of supporting 8 engages a rack 9 which is on the lower part of each of the plates 5 and 5, thus forming an arcuate surface to bear against the clothes which are thereby supported. These arcuate and corrugated members are used preferably for ladies skirts, or mens trousers, when they are supported from the waist. The plates 5 and 6 are assembled around the bar I by means of suitable rivets, pins, or the like, all of which is well known in the art.
In Figures 3 and 4, the bar I3 is identical in construction to the bar I, and a pair of clothes engaging members I4 and I5 are adjustably mounted on this bar. These clothes engaging members are formed in pairs which are assembled around the bar l3 in the same manner as described for the members 3 and 4. The complementary plates l5 and I! of each of the members are each formed with a depending finger I8 which engages the cuff portion of the trousers in order to support them. A post l9 depends from the bar l3, and when trousers are supported from the waistband, the' inwardly folded portion of the trousers is looped over this post, thus causing the trousers to be held in proper position to maintain the crease and shape thereof. The clothes engaging members l4 and I5 are each held in adjusted position by means of a dog 20 which is identical in arrangement and mounting to the dog 8.
Having described my invention, I claim:
In a garment hanger, a bar, racks spaced from ends of said bar, and garment engaging members mounted upon the portions of the bar between said racks and ends of the bar and slidable thereon longitudinally of the bar to adjusted positions, each of said garment engaging members comprising companion side plates having confronting inner side faces formed with registering recesses defining a passage slidably receiv ing said bar and a slot extending upwardly from the passage, a pin passing through said plates and through the upper portion of said slot, a dog pivoted upon said pin and projecting from the slot, at the inner side edge of the garment en gaging member, and a spring urging said pawl downwardly into engagement with a companion rack to hold the garment engaging member in a set position upon said bar.
