COMBINED RAZOR STROP AND RETAINER Filed April l5, l1945 Siwa/Wto@ /feizyazz/de,
Patented oet. 12, 1943 f bladesrsolconstructd and arranged as to permit clamped-within .aholderiSjxandffreely.anzdlrockz- I the razor to be compactly stowed away within ablysuspendedio'rrzthiescarrier.;extendingzthrough the strop when the latter is not in use, whereby a slot therein, in .such a manner that by sliding I the strop and razor-assembly may be packed as a the carrier back-and-forth with the fingers thel unit in a traveling bag or kit so as to. take up blade is repeatedly'drawn across the honing strip a minimum amount of space and to prevent 6 supported von the table 5, The openings bethe loss of one from the other. tween the ends of the table and the shelves 4 An important object of my invention is to pro-` allow the blade and holder 'to swing `to vertical vide an improvement in the general type of strop 10 position following each traverse of the table so disclosed in the U. S. patent of Henry J Sewoster, that whenA the direction -of travel of the carrier No. 1,616,004, granted February 1, 1927, wherein l is reversed the opposite side of the blade edge is the strop forms part of a carrying case providpresented to the Vhoning strip. 'A few strokes of ing a table for supporting a strip of leather'or ,l the carrier is sufficient to impart a keen edge toy equivalent honing material and amanually shiftthe blade.` For retaining the honing strip 6 in able blade carrier for drawing the safety razor place, yits ends are tucked under flanges 4a exblade back `and forth across the strip to impart f tending inwardly from the'sides of the kbox and a sharp cutting edgeto the blade. l contiguous with the shelves 4. l
More particularly my invention has for its ob- In order to adapt thestrop to use as a retainer i ject to provide in a strop of the above character for a safety razor R, I lpropose to provide one or' means involving a few simple alterations inthe both of the shelves `4 `with a transversely extendstructure of the carrying case and without subing. slot y9 sufficient in size to receive and acstantially changing the original design and idencommodate the head I0 Iof the razor when the tity of the strop, whereby a safety razor may latter is introduced under the shelf and one side be conveniently nested within the case and held of the head projected upwardly, as indicated in against shifting and accidental dislodgment. Figs. l and 2. In furtherance of this object, the Other objects and advantages will be apparent adjacent end of the table 3 is cut away to provide from the following detailed description of a prea recess 0a which allows the handle Il,to drop ferred embodiment of the invention, reference down below the level of the table, when the end being hadto the annexed drawing, in which: of the honing material is lifted, and rest Within Figure 1 S a plan View of a strop DIOVdillg anotch I2 cut in a down-turned flange I3 conrazor retaining means; p tiguous with an end of thetable. The position Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional View of the razor when `fully inserted in the casek I taken 0n the line 2-2 0f Fig 1; is ,best illustrated in Fig. 2. By replacing the end Figure 3 is a transverse cross-sectional view 35 of the honing strip under itsfretaining flanges, taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; and so that it overlies the razor handle,- the razor isr Figure 4 is a detail cross-sectional view showheld in place. Also by shifting the carrier 'l to a s ing the razor blade holder and carrier forming positionso `that it overlies the razor handle and Darts of the'strop. the honing strip, additional security to hold the 1 In the drawing is illustrated a strop for sharp- 40 razor handle is added, especially when a rubber @ning Safety razor blades correspondingr SubStaIlband encircling the case, or other suitable means tially to the device disclosed in the Sewoster is used to prevent the carrier -'I from shifting off Patent No. 1,616,004, above-mentioned, to which the handle, The v Case may be provided with a patent reference is made for a more detailed4 f removable cover (not shown) if desired, as sugdescrption 0f the :construction and operation 45j gested in the Sewosterpatent. Thev assembly of the device. For present purposes it is sufiicient takes-up only@l small amountr of space in a grip, t0 State that the StIOD Comprises anelorlgated suitcase or fkitfand' obviates the necessity of metal case I of flat, box-shaped construction another` box or case being carried as-a container having a ClOSed bOttOm 2 and atOD 3-r The top for the lrazor and blade; and as'another adis cutaway s0 as to provide transversely disposedy 50 vantage, it reduces the likelihood of either the shelves dlocated at opposite ends ofthe case razor, the bladeforthehoning devicetherefor and an intermediate table 5 for supporting a strip being misplaced or separated. v V of leather or similar honing material 6. A razor To remove therazor from the case, it is only f blade carrier I extends between'and slidably enrnecessary to slide the carrier I free `ofthe 'razor' gages opposite sides of the case. A razor blade handle I I, to lift the end of the' honing material,
is capable of broader application, and that the Y- strop disclosed in the above-identified patent of i Sewoster, it will be apparent that the inventionV strop may take other forms than that speciiically i illustrated as described herein without departing from the spirit of my invention as defined bythei following claim.
I claim: l The combination with a razor strop comprising a box-shaped, hollow case havingy a closed bottom, av table for supporting a strip of honing material extending transversely across the top of said case and having its ends spaced from the ends of the case, a shelf extending transversely across the top of said case and located intermediate the table and an end of the case, and a carrier adapted to rockably support a safety razor blade, said carrier being manually slidable longitudinally of the table so as to draw said blade back-and-forth across the honing strip; of retaining means for a safety razor, said retaining means comprising a slot in said shelf so constructed and arranged as to allow the head of a lsafety razor to be inserted under the shelf and one side thereof projected upwardly through said slot, a longitudinally extending recess Within said table adapted to pass the handle of said razor and a rest for engaging and limiting the downwardmovement of said handle, whereby when theV razor is inserted in said slot and recess the carrier may be shifted over the recess to prevent accidental dislodgment of the handle therefrom.
