My invention relates to safety razor blade ejectors and refers particularly to safety razor blade ejectors adapted to receive safety razor blade magazines, said ejectors and said magazines being of separate entities, but adapted to co-act with each other.
The devices of my invention are particularly adaptable for use with non-refillable safety blade magazines, that is, safety blade magazines which are necessary in the introduction of blades in certain types of razors, but are also adaptable for use with refillable blade magazines.
Safety razor blade ejectors in which the blades are contained within the ejectors and are a component part thereof, are known, but in these devices it is necessary to discard the ejector when the last blade has been ejected therefrom, and as these ejectors are more costly to manufacture than are many forms of razor magazines, it is evident that it would be more economic to produce an ejector which can be used with the cheaper separate blade magazines, and it is to this form of razor blade ejectors that my invention is directed.
My invention, therefore, relates to safety blade ejectors which do not have blades as an inseparable part, except as used, but which are of such construction that they will allow of the introduction therein and removal therefrom of separate razor blade magazines and, which, when so introduced, allow of the ready ejection of single blade after single blade from the magazine until all of the blades have been removed therefrom.
The above noted, and other, valuable features of the devices of my invention will be evident from a consideration of my specification and its accompanying drawings, in which similar parts are designed by similar numerals.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a razor blade ejector of my invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one form of a razor blade magazine adapted for use with the ejector of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical section of the ejector of Figure 1 assembled with the magazine of Figure 2 with blades therein.
Figure 4 is a section through the line 4-4 of the device of Figure 3 partly broken away.
Figure 5 is a section through the line 55 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a section through the line 6-6 of Figure 3.
Figure '7 is a top view of the magazine of Figure 2, partly broken away.

The particular form of my razor blade epector illustrated in th accompanying drawings comprises a casing having the top member 20, having a longitudinal opening 2| therein; the side 22 having the extended guide member 23; the side 24; the lower extremities of the sides 22 and 24 being bent inwardly forming the spaced bottom members 25, 25 forming the longitudinal opening 25' and th end member 26.
A Z-shaped member 21 of resilient metal is attached to the casing side 22, the central portion of which passes through an opening in the side 22 and acts as a blade magazine stop, as explained later. The extended guide member 23 carries two projections 28, 28.
A slide ejector comprises a top member 29, the respective sides 30, 30 which extend downwardly over the casing sides 22 and 24. Fixedly attached to the slide-ejector by means of the cutout 3| is a blade-ejector 3| having its outward end 32 beveled and its inner end having the slightly extended portion 32'.
It is evident, therefore, that the slide ejector can be moved longitudinally over the top 20 of the casing, this movement in either direction being interrupted by the abutment of the cut-out member 30 upon the respective ends of the top opening 2 I.
This blade ejector can be employed with many kinds of blade magazines, and hence, I do not limit myself to the one here described, this particular blade magazine being shown and described solely for the purpose of clearly explaining the application of my blade magazine.
The particular blade magazine is of the nonrefillable type and comprises a casing having the bottom 40; the two sides 4|, M, the upper portions of which are bent inwardly forming the two spaced top members 42, 42 producing the elongated opening 43; and the end 44, the upper edges of which is spaced from the top member 42, 42 by a distance equal to the thickness of a razor blade carried by the magazine, thus forming an opening 44'.
Positioned within the magazine casing is a flat spring 46 fixedly attached to the bottom 40 of the magazine by means of the threaded bolt 41 passing downwardly through the slot 25 of the ejector, when the magazine is positioned within the ejector. The free end of the spring is resiliently pressed upwardly.
Within the magazine is a preventive spring to prevent the introduction of blades into the magazine after all of the stacked blades have been ejected. This preventive spring 48, her shown, is annular in horizontal cross-section with a space 48 between its end and with a cut-out portion 48" in its central portion. This preventive spring, which has a tendency to assume the position as shown in Figures 7 and 9, is attached to the bottom 40 by means of a cut-out portion 50 of the bottom 40 bent inwardly to form a U-shaped member i bent over the portion 48" of the preventive spring.
Positioned within the magazine is a plurality of stacked razor blades I00, I00, pressed upwardly against the top members 42, 42 by the leaf spring 46, the preventive spring ends 48, 48 being expanded by the leaf spring 46 which is slightly wider than the width of the razor blades, as shown particularly in Figure 4.
When the device is in this position, as shown in Figure 4, the blade-ejector 3| is in abutment with the end of the uppermost blade, and, if the blade ejector is moved longitudinally along the magazine, it will eject this uppermost blade I00 through the opening 45 and thus remove it from the magazine, and allow the next blade of the stack to assume the uppermost position when the slide ejector is returned to its original position.
These operations are then repeated until the last blade is removed, when the leaf spring 46 will move above the preventive spring ends 48, 48 allowing the resilience of this last mentioned spring to become effective, causing this spring to assume the position shown in Figures '7 and 8.
It will be noted that when the preventive spring is in this, its normal position, it is impossible to insert a blade into the magazine, a it will abut upon the spring ends 48, 48 preventing its introduction.
When the magazine is in this inserted position within the casing, the outward movement of the magazine through the open end of casing is prevented by the angular portion of the member 21 which is positioned behind the rear portion of the magazine, and in order to allow the removal of the magazine, the free end of the member 21 is moved outwardly, thus releasing the abutment of the member 21 with the magazine.
To remove the magazine from the casing, the extended end of the threaded bolt 41 is moved outwardly through the recess opening of the casing.
It is evident that the bottom of the casing may be closed, and thus not having the longitudinal recess 25, in which event a side of the casing may have a longitudinal recess and the magazine may have a member extending through said side recess.
It is also evident that the casing may be made without any longitudinal recess and the magazine may not have any extended removal means, in which event an instrument may be inserted through the top opening 2i of the casing and be operated to move the magazine outwardly of the casing.
I do not limit myself to devices of the described character having the guide member 23, as my device will operate without this element, which is shown simply as a means of guiding the ejector blade upon a razor, if desired.
Figures 10 and 11 illustrate a modified form of a blade magazine adapted for use with my ejector and differs only from the blade magazines previously described in that it has a blade protector 60 positioned upon the top member of the stacked blades I00, I00.
When a blade magazine is inserted in the ejector shown in Figures 3 and 4, the bevelled end 32 of the ejector member 3| passes through the opening 45 and above the upper blade I00, thus positioning the ejecting elements of the device for the ejection of the uppermost blade I00 through the opening 45. I
When it is desired to insert a blade magazine of the character of that shown in Figures 10 and 11, the outer end of the ejector 3| is blunt as shown in Figure 10 and is not bevelled as shown in the previous Figures 3 and 4.
In the use of the magazine of Figures 10 and 11. if the ejector 3| is extended from the casing as shown in Figures 3 and 4, the end of the ejector 3| is inserted in the opening 45 of the magazine, which abuts it upon the end of the blade protector 60, and as the magazine is moved inwardly the ejector 3| ejects the protector 60 through the opening 44', and the ejector is then in position to eject the uppermost blade I08 through the opening 45.
If the ejecting elements are positioned within the casing, instead of being extended outwardly therefrom, the magazine can be inserted through the open end of the casing and, as it is moved inwardly, the ejector 3| will pass through the opening 45 of the magazine, a combination of such inserting movement causing the ejector 3i to eject the blade protector 60 through the opening 44 of the magazine.
I1; will thus be seen that my invention presents a razor blade ejecting device adapted to receive a refillable or non-refillable separate blade magazine containing a plurality of stacked razor blades, with means adapted to remove a single blade from said magazine during the retention of the remaining blades within said magazine.
I do not limit myself to the size, shape, number, or arrangement of parts as shown and described as these are shown and described solely for the purpose of clearly describing my invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a razor blade ejector of the class in which by successive movement of an ejector element blades may be successively removed from a succession of stacked blades deposited therein and guided for placement upon a razor head, in combination, a casing having a top member with an elongated opening therein and adapted to interchangeably receive a blade magazine within said casing; a slidable member carried by said casing; a blade ejector within said casing and attached to said slidable member by means passing through said top opening, said blade ejector being adapted to remove the uppermost blade of a plurality of stacked blades from within the blade magazine within the casing and outwardly from said casing; an open end to said casing to allow the insertion into and removal from said casing of a blade magazine for said blade removal and separate resilient means fixedly attached to said casing so positioned that it may be abutted upon a blade magazine within said casing, limiting the longitudinal movement of said blade magazine, and can be removed from said abutting potmK/alit'ci.

2. In a razor blade ejector of the class in which by successive movements of an ejector element blades may be successively removed from a succession of stacked blades deposited therein and guided for placement upon a razor head, in combination, a casing having a bottom member, two side members one of which extends beyond the casing and a top member with an elongated opening therein and adapted to interchangeably receive a blade magazine within said casing; a slidable member carried by said casing; a blade ejector within said casing and attached to said slidable member by means passing through said top opening, said blade ejector being adapted to remove the uppermost blade of a plurality of stacked blades from within the blade magazine within the casing and outwardly from said casing; an open end to said casing to allow the insertion into and removal from said casing of a blade magazine for said blade removal and separate resilient means fixedly attached to said casing so positioned that it may be abutted upon a blade magazine within said casing, limiting the longitudinal movement of said blade magazine, and can be removed from said abutting position allowing the removal of said blade magazine from within said casing without injury to said abutting means or said casing.
