In the present disclosurw a wrist-watch :iserves -to illustrate tone applicatiomofuse of' the "invention; 1 It willyof coursepbe =understood th'at other articles of merchandise may be I mounted rand di'splayedain-asimilar manner; as hereinafter em'ore specifically set forth. Receptacles for the purpose of accommodating 'strap' -watches, -pendants, :beads, etc., have gen- -eral-ly been ofnelongated :forni' fohthe purpose :of tieffe'ctingaa' complete idisplay efthe article. Generally aspeaking, con-1y: slight xvariation .uin size, shapepandcdesign 'ofithe. receptacle is possible, this being dependentto a large extent on the article to be displayed. It is the usual practice to provide some means for forwardly inclining the article to provide clearer and better display when the receptacle is ina show-case or window. Obviously articles of this nature are more attractively displayed if, in addition to being forwardly inclined, provision is made for the concealment of necessary and yet usually unornamental parts, such as straps, chains, clasps, etc. The present invention discloses a closed receptacle that is adapted to mount a strap watch or analogous article in such a manner that it may be attractively displayed and at the same time the unomamental portions thereof, such as the fastener or buckle, will be conveniently concealed. The receptacle is comprised of only two members, namely, a body and cover. The base wall of the body is constructed to project upwardly into the space inclosed by the cover and it is on this base that the article is mounted.
One of the objects of the invention lies in the provision of a closed receptacle adapted to mount and secure an article of merchandise, for display purposes.
, Another object of the invention lies in the provision of a closed receptacle in which the body portion is adapted to mount an article of merchandise both for shipment and display purposes.
Another object of the invention lies in the provision of a receptacle having spring means by which to secure an article of merchandise in display position on the body thereof.
Another object of the invention lies in the provision of a closed receptacle in which an ornamental mounting pad for an article of merchandise is integral with the body of the receptacle.
@ther and further objects will be 'more I fully understood from'a' consideration of the following "specific ation taken in: conjunction -with-' the ac companfying drawing rand in whi'ch j =Fig-ure lis apers'pective view of-'a n open recept-able in which an article of merchandise may be mounted for' display purposes? In the present disclosure the receptacle is comprised of body and cover elements H and I2. Generally speaking, the body and cover elements may be of any suitable configuration. A suitable hinge structure is provided along a common vertical edge I3 of the structure. As shown, the pivotal elements of the hinge are formed in the wall of the body and cover and are held in operable pivotal relationship by one or more springs M. The springs also serve the purpose of holding the cover 12 in either opened or closed position with respect to the body. The hinge structure described is disclosed in my Patent #1,833,305 and will not, therefore, be set forth in greater detail.
The body and cover elements II and I2 in the present disclosure are formed from moldable ma-- terial. It will be understood, however, that the material from which the elements of the receptacle are made forms no part of the invention in asmuch as the invention may be carried out in substantially all materials that are susceptible of use in the manufacture of receptacles of the type to which the invention relates.
The body I I includes front, side, and rear walls I6, l1, and I8. As shown, the front wall I6 is of considerably less height than the rear wall I8 and, consequently, the upper edge [9 of the body is inclined upwardly from front to rear of the receptacle. In the present instance, the edge I9 is in the form of an inwardly directed ledge with which the cover contacts when in closed position.
Secured to or formed integral with the ledge portion IQ of the front wall I6 is an article support 2|. This support may be formed with any desirable ornamentation, such as the raised bands 22, and is raised slightly above the meeting edges of the cover and body elements. It is to be noted that the support 2| is attached to the body only at the front, and thus there is a gap 23 between the ends of the support and the ledges IQ of the end walls l1, and a further gap 24 between the rear edge of thesupport and the rear of the receptacle. One or more spring clips 26 aresecured to theunder face of the support 2|. It'is to be noted that the support 2| is forwardly inclined at substantially the Same le as the inclination of the meet n edges of the body and cover. Also, thelfa'ctl; 15
that the support is raised slightly above the ledge I9 gives it the appearance of an insert in the body of the receptacle.

'1 be mounted on the support 2| by slipping the it may also be set down into-the body H rather than raised thereabove as shown. It is contemplated that these modifications, as well as variations in the number, position, and size of-the springs may be made without departing from the spirit and scopeof the'invention as defined f in the hereunto annexed claims.
Having thus set-forth my invention what I claim as new and for which. I desire protection by Letters Patent is:

3. A receptacle for an article of merchandise comprising body and cover elements, an apertured base wall insaid body element, said base wall being substantially in theplane of the meeting edges of said body and cover elements, an
article support integral with the forward edge of said aperture andprojecting thereinto, said support being spaced from the side and rear edges of said aperture and being in a raised position'with respect to said base. wall and facilitating engagement therewith of a fastener for .an article to bemounted on said support.
