The present invention relates to a guard for drain boards and the like, and more particularly to a guard for sink boards which will prevent dishes from sliding or falling therefrom.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a drain board attachment of the character indicated which is simple in construction, economical in production and practical in application.

Another object is to provide a guard which can be readily and firmly attached to sinks now generally in use and which can be easily removed therefrom for the purpose of cleaning the sink board.

Still another object is to provide a guard for drain boards and the like which can be adjusted to different sizes.

Still a further object is to provide a guard of the character indicated which will not damage or chip dishes resting or sliding against it and which has an attractive appearance and, at the same time, is strong and durable.

Other objects and advantages inherent in the invention will become apparent from the following detailed specification and accompanying drawings which describe and illustrate the preferred embodiment of the invention, together with modifications thereof.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of a sink board guard, according to the invention.

Figure 2 is a cross-section of the rods of which the sink board guard, shown in Figure 1, is composed.

Figure 3 is a front elevation partly in section showing the guard applied to the sink.

Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modification.

Figure 5 is a perspective view of another modification.

Throughout the drawings, similar reference characters represent corresponding parts.

Referring in greater detail to the drawings, the guard is composed of a plurality of longitudinal rods I and transverse members I l which thus form a grill. These rods are formed of a metal or heavy wire core l2 and are covered by a resilient coating of rubber or similar material l3.

The grill thus formed provides a comparatively stiff guard or rim. This guard or rim is bent to conform to the contour of the drain board to provide a front portion l4 and side portions l and IS.

The transverse rods ll, composing the grill work of the front portion M, are longer than the remaining other transverse rods l l and extend a substantial distance below the lowermost of the rods lfl.

These rods are then bent upwardly in a W fashion to fit over the partition I! of the sink. The ends of the rods are preferably bent upwardly again and connected by a longitudinal rod 8.

As will appear from the drawings, this rod I8 is spaced from the U bends of the rods as well as from the partition I1, and may be used as a handle in removing the guard from the partition l1.

The two end rods of the front portion M preferably extend further below the grill work frame than the intermediate rods in order to provide a better support against the partition l'l.

Similarly, the U bends formed by the end rods extend further down on the opposite side of the partition [1 for the purpose of providing a better grip.

The rods are made of substantially resilient material so that the same may be bent or adjusted to fit the particular partition to which the guard is intended to be applied.

After the guard has been applied to the partition H, the drain board l9 may be replaced in its proper position resting on top of the partition I! and the U bends of the transverse front bars II.

It will be noted that by virtue of the con struction described and illustrated, the guard extends a substantial distance below the surface of the drain board and in this manner the dishes placed inside the guard will be prevented from slipping through or falling into the sink.

Figure 4 shows a modification in which there is a telescoping member 2i! composed of rods of a construction similar to the main guard. This member telescopes within the sleeves 2| mounted on the main guard.

The ends of the longitudinal rods, composing the adjustable member 21], may be bent upwardly to prevent the rods from pulling out of the sleeves 2E.

The flexibility of the guard makes it possible to apply it to various forms and styles of sinks by slight modification of the U bends and bifurcated portion of the guard.

The guard is easily and quickly attached to, or detached from, the partition I? of the sink, simply by gripping the main rods I0 and the rod I8.

Figure 5 shows a modification similar to Figure 4 in which the telescoping portions 28 are joined to an end portion 22, making a completely enclosed structure.

It is apparent the specific illustrations above shown have been given by Way of illustration and not by way of limitation and that the structures above described are subject to wide variation and modification Without departing from the scope or intent of the invention, all of which variations and modifications are to be included within the scope of the present invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A guard for drainboards and the like adapted to be detachably secured to a partition supporting one end of the drainboard, said guard comprising a shield having a front portion and side members extending from said front portion, an attachment portion depending from said front portion, said attachment portion having the shape of an inverted U for straddling the drainboard partition, said inverted U shaped portion being offset inwardly from said front portion whereby the drainboard will rest upon said inverted U shaped portion.

2. A guard for drainboards and the like comprising the combination with a partition supporting one end of the drainboard, said guard comprising a flexible shield for the edges of said drainboard, clamping members depending from said shield member and offset inwardly therefrom, said clamping members being adapted to engage the top surface and sides of said partition whereby the front end of the drainboard will rest upon said clamping members when supported on said partition.
