This invention relates to a take-up by which the wrist of a glove is adjustably constricted and held confined on the wearer during use. The take-up is applicable to various types of gloves, and other apparel, and also to coverings of limp material where it is desired to temporarily constrict the covering about an object when disposed therein.

An object of the invention is to provide an automatically gripping take-up for the wrist of a glove or other covering that holds its adjustment when the take-up is manually drawn taut, and which is readily released by the wearer when desired.

Another object of the invention is to provide a. take-up made entirely of pliant material, such for example as leather, and devoid of metallic accouterments.

And a further object of the invention is to so form a take-up and apply it, particularly to a glove of the type commonly used by workmen, in such manner as to avert interference between the take-up and the objects handled by the workman wearing the glove. Ordinarily, when laces, buckles and other metallic fasteners are employed, such devices frequently become caught in the machinery or objects handled by the workman resulting in more or less serious accidents. It, therefore, is an outstanding object of the instant invention to avoid the attending hazards of such interferences.

An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a diagrammatical view showing the back of a workmans glove in which the invention is incorporated;

Fig. 2 is another diagrammatical plan view of a thong forming part of the take-up;

Fig. 3 is a similar View of an anchor piece forming another part of the take-up; and

Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the thong and anchor piece assembled in readiness for attachment to the glove.

The illustrative embodiment of the invention consists of a thong 5, preferably made of flat pliant material and shaped in its midportion like a narrow strap, one end of which is flared laterally to provide a footing 6, the opposite end being laterally enlarged and shaped to provide a pull-tab l with an opening 8 for reception therethrough of said midportion of the thong when folded back upon itself, and an anchor piece 9, made of similar material, provided with an aperture III for reception therethrough of the thong.

One end of the anchor pieceis secured to the glove structure preferably by sewing said end in the outer side seam ll thereof. The thong then is attached to the anchor piece by inserting the footing 6 through the aperture I0 therein, and then through the opening 8 in the pull-tab so that the midportion 5' of the thong has looped connection with the anchor piece. The footing 6 then is secured in the inner side seam I! of the glove at a point transversely opposite the anchor piece so that the thong overlies the wrist portion iii of the glove in a common plane with the anchor piece.

The glove shown in the drawing is of a common type used by workman. The back wrist portion l3 that covers the metacarpal region of the hand preferably is of loosely woven fabric such as canvas capable of being crinkled. The glove is provided with a gauntlet l4, and a reinforcing strip l5 preferably overlies the back of the glove in the region thereof occupied by the knuckles, and the backs of the digits at their outer end portions have overlying reinforcing tips I6. The take-up is secured in the side seams of the glove by stitching the outer end of the anchor in between the front and back of the glove, and the footing end of the thong is likewise secured in the corresponding side seam so the take-up is stretched over and in frictional contact with the back wrist portion l3 of the glove.

In use, the midportion 5' of the thong has lengthwise running movement through the aperture ID in the anchor piece so that when the pull-tab is grasped and drawn toward the inner side seam the take-up is tightened and the wrist covering crinkled, thus constricting the wrist portion of the glove which prevents removal of the glove from the hand of the wearer.

Upon tightening of the take-up the under surfaces of the thong that contacts with the crinkled face of the wrist portion I 3 of the glove snugs the wrinkles therein closely which prevents unintentional loosening of the take-up. Pulling of the tab in the opposite direction causes slackening of the thong which permits expansion of the wrist portion of the glove to it normal state and ready removal of the glove from the hand.

The take-up thus constructed has but two pieces of like pliable material and is secured to the glove by sewing without resort to metallic parts ordinarily used for glove fasteners, and is located only across the back wrist portion of the glove so that the front of the glove is entirely free from obstruction by any part of the take-up which is advantageous to the workman while handling rough articles or materials.

Variations from the particular construction above disclosed may be resorted to by the exercise of skill in the art, without departure from the spirit or scope of the invention, and the following claims are intended to be inclusive of such variations.

What I claim is:

1. In a wrist take-up for a glove, an apertured anchor piece secured in one of the side seams of said glove, and a thong, one end of which is shaped to provide an apertured pull-tab that is looped through the aperture in said anchor piece, the opposite end portion of said thong being strung through the aperture of the pull-tab and its extremity being secured in the opposite side seam of the glove, the under surfaces of said thong having frictional contact with the adjacent of the glove when the the wrist of the glove to hold the glove'in face of said wrist portion take-up is tightened and thereby constricted thus place.

2. A glove take-up made entirely of flat pliant material, such as leather, and consisting of two parts one of whichtconstitutes an anchor having an aperture, and the other constituting a thong provided at one end with a broad apertured pulltab, the narrow midportion of said thong being looped through said anchor and the pull-tab so that when the take-up is disposed across the wrist portion of the glove with its outer ends secured to the opposite sides of the glove, and the pull-tab is drawn outwardly, said wrist portion is held constricted.
