BY QQZQ ATTORNEY.
Patented May 18, 1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to a transfer picture postcard, more particularly a postcard having a readily transferable or removable image thereon, and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a postcard of this class which bears upon its one side an image which is readily transferable to various surfaces, such as the surfaces of picture album leaves, glass, wood, metal, or any other like surfaces;
Second, to provide a postcard of this class which promotes the transferring of postcard images to albums or the like records for recording numerous various memorable images therein.
Third, to provide a postcard of this class on which the transferable image may be of varying conventional image transferring compositions;
Fourth, to provide a postcard of this class which promotes distribution of various world wide scenic and other objects of interest making for educational recorded collections of the transferred images thereof from my postcards;
Fifth, to provide a novel postcard of this class;
Sixth, to provide a postcard of this class from which images may be transferred in memory of the sender to some habitually observed surface such as visible surfaces of living quarters or the like; and
Seventh, to provide a postcard of this class which is very simple and economical to produce, efficient in carrying out its various purposes and which is sufficiently durable for handling and transit through the mails.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure l is a side elevational View of my transfer picture postcard showing an image thereon; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the opposite side of my postcard from that as shown in Fig. l. and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken from the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing:
The postcard member I, image layer supporting sheet 2 and the image retaining layer 3 constitute the principal parts and portions of my transfer picture postcard.
The postcard member I is substantially conventional in form and may be made of conventional cardboard or the like, having the usual space for messages and address of persons to receive the postcards on its one side, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawing. Secured to the opposite side of the postcard member I is the image layer supporting sheet member 2. This image layer supporting sheet member 2 is provided with outline margin portions 2a which are partially cutaway by perforations, as shown by the broken lines 21) to facilitate the removal of the portion of the image layer supporting sheet 2 from the postcard member I inwardly of the broken lines 21).
It will be noted that the outline margin portions 2a are secured to the postcard member I by means of glue or the like, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing, said glue being shown by the conventional symbols and designated 20.
The image retaining layer 3 may be of any con ventional image transferring compositions. This image retaining layer 3 is arranged to retain the image 3a, as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawing. It will be noted that this image retaining layer 3 may be provided with an image of any objects of interest as desired.
The operation of transferring the image retaining layer from my postcard to any desired surface is substantially as follows:
The image layer supporting sheet member 2 is completely cutaway from the outline margin portions 2a thereof and is thereby removed from the postcard member I. Then the image layer supporting sheet member 2 is placed in water for a period of time sufficient to act on the image retaining layer 3 so that said layer 3 and the image retained thereby are readily transferable to any desired surface due to the adhesive character of the layer 3 promoted by soaking the same in the water. The image retaining layer 3 is then placed on the desired surface and permitted to dry.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a transfer picture postcard of the class described, the combination of a postcard, a transimage layer at the outline margin only to secure said postcard member and said image layer supporting sheet member together at the magin, said image layer supporting sheet member provided with perforate line portions defining said outline margin portions.
ARTHUR BRAUNSTEIN.
