Description
(ModeL) J. B. FLEOK. Mold for Beefsteak Masticators.
No. 231,028. Patented Aug. 10,1880.

WITNESSES INVE hm ATTORNEY NPEIHIS FHOTO-LTTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTONv D Q I UNITE STATES FFIC ' ATENT JOHN B. FLEGK, OF ITHAGA, NEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,028, dated August 10, 1880.
Application filed May 26, 1880. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. FLEOK, of Ithaca, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Molds forBeefsteak-Masticators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a vertical central section of my improved beefsteak -masticator mold, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the mold-plate with the upper shell removed.
This invention has relation to the manufacture of steak tenderers or masticators; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA designates the mold-plate or die, having on its upper surface an annular rib, a, and properlyspaeed perforations 1) within said rib through the plate for the reception of the teeth 0, which are designed to fit said perforations neatly, projecting below the plate by their cutting ends and above the same by their root ends, as shown in the drawings. This plate is connected below with another plate or base, E, at a sufficient distance to allow space for the teeth, suitable legs or props d serving to keep the plate and base apart, and at the same time connect the two. In this manner is provided a chamber, B, into which flows water, which is put into the exterior pan, 0, for the purpose of keeping the teeth tempered.
The perforations in the plate are easily made circular, and are then half-filled by means of half-round wire-stem fillings c, which extend to the lower plate or basevertically, and serve as guides to keep the teeth in proper position when inserted.
D indicates an upper mold or shell, which is placed on the plateA within the rib, and which is provided with an inlet, h, through which the metal is poured into the matrix above the plate to form a body for the masticator, in which the upper or root ends of the teeth are firmly embedded.
If a shell is employed for the upper section of the mold it may be made with its wall slightly inclined inward toward its base-opening, to hold the filling securely and form a permanent covering therefor.
If an upper mold is used it may be made in two vertical sections and bound together by a ring or otherwise connected, so as to be easily separated to release the bodyof the masticator formed therein.
A central pin, 70, projects upward from the die-plate, and serves to form the central hole in the body for the passage of the stem of the cleaner-plate, which works on the teeth.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The combination of a mold-plate or die, A, having toothperforations I) and guidestems e, and the plate E, the two plates being set apart to produce a tempering-chamber, 13, between them, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the base-plate E, a mold-plate or die, A, having tooth-perforations 1), guide-stems c, and between the plates the tempering-chamber B, of the water-vessel O and the upper shell or n1old-section,substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN B. FLEOK.
Witnesses LINNEAN SMITH, JOHN WOODWARD.
