This invention relates to an illuminating razor handle and has for an object to provide a, device of this character adapted toilluminate the face at the point of contact of the blade with the beard without causing a glare in the shavers eyes so that shaving may be accomplished in the abl sence of proper lighting with speed, comfort and safety. l

A further object is to provide a device of this character having a helical spring disposed against the razor guard to permit the handle being rotated on its axis to quickly and properly adjust the light rays to illuminate the area being shaved regardless of the angular contours of the face in that particular area.

A further object is to provide a device of this i character in which the small lamp bulb is screwed through water resisting material such. as sponge rubber or cork to prevent moisture entering the interior of the handle.

A further object is to provide adevice of .this

character which may be plugged into a socket, or may have self-contained batteries, land in which also the parts are interchangeable to t a razor of the double edged type or the single edged type.

A further object is to provide apparatus of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit ory sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of an illuminating razor handle constructed in accordance with the invention applied to a razor of the double edge type, and having a self-contained battery.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a front elevation of an illuminating handle constructed in accordance with the invention applied to a razor of the single edge type and adapted to be cle.

A helical spring I6 is sleeved on the sfr'id and is confined under compression between a shoulder I'I on the base portion I2 of the studand the guard member of the razor I5. The spring presses against the razor guard and permits the handle I 0 being turned axially to dispose the lamp bulb in proper position to illuminate the area being shaved while thelvarms Ilshield the shavers eyes from the light rays. n

A conventional lamp bulb I8 of the low voltage type, or ilashlight type, is screwed into a moisture resisting sleeve I9 which is confined in a metal threaded tube 20 which constitutes a socket for the lamp bulb. The threads of thev tube engage similar threads formed on a ring 2| which constitutes the end of the handle I0 to which the arms II are secured. The lamp bulb I8 is exposed between the arms I I.

'I'he hollow handle III performs the function of a magazine for a battery cell 22. The battery cell has its outer casing bare and in contact with the metal handle I0. 'I'he bottom of the battery cell bears against a water repelling plug 23 formed of cork or rubber, which is carried by a cap 24 which is threadedly engaged with the bottom end of the handle as shown at 25.

A helical spring 26 is confined under compression betweenthe upper end of the battery cell 22 and lower end of the tube 20. The circuit through the bulb may be traced from the central terminal 2l of the battery cell to the central terminal'28 of the lamp bulb, through the bulb lament to the screw base I8 of the bulb to the tube 20 which has a ilange 29 in contact with the screw I8, of the lamp bulb thence through the metal handle I0 to the outer casing ofthe battery in the event .the handle is formed of metal, and if the handle is formed of non-conducting material, the spring forms a connector between the tubeZII and the outer casing of the battery.

Moreover, the modified form of the invention is shown as beingequipped with av razor 36 of the single edge type. In this form of the invention the handle is provided with an extension 31 of substantially the shape of a. segment of a globe to form a lamp shade for shading the shavers eyes while shaving. The shadel is provided with an exterior threaded stud 38 having an enlarged base 39 to provide a shoulder 40 at the bottom of the stud. The stud. receives the screw eye 4| of the razor.

A'heli'cal spring 42 is sleeved on the threaded stud 38 and is 'confined under compression between the shoulder 40 and the screw eye 4l. The spring presses against' the screw eye and permits .the handle 30 being turned axially to dispose the shade 31in position to shield the 'shavers eyes from rays of light.

The lamp bulbfis screwed into a moisture resisting sleeve 43 carried by an .exteriorly threaded metal tube 44 which is screwed into a ring 45 forming the base of the shade 31. The tube snugly engages the upper end of the handle 30 and connects the shade to the handle. The tube is also provided with a flange 4E which engages the threaded outer terminal of the lamp bulb. The ring45 may be unscrewed to remove the shade from the handle and permit replacement of the lamp bulb when burned out.

An electrode 41 is disposed in a metal casing 48 and is insulated therefrom as shown at 49.

The casing is imbedded at the lower end in a Y water resistant plug 5U carried by a cap 5l having a. screw threaded engagement 52 with the lower end of the handle.

The casing 48 is in engagement with the cap 5I as shown at 53. One of the conductor wires of the lamp cord 32 is connected to the casing 48 and the other is connected to the electrode 41 which later engages the 4center contact 54 of the lamp bulb.

The electric circuit may be traced from one conductor of the lamp cord to the electrode 41 to the center contact 54 of the lamp bulb, through the lamp bulb to the outer contact 55 of a lamp bulb, to the tube 44 thence through the handle 30 to the casing 48 and to theY other conductor wire of the lamp cord.

In both forms of the invention the lamp bulb may be unscrewed or screwed into its socket to disconnect the bulb or connect the bulb to the v source of current.

Since the operation of the parts has been described as the description of the parts progressed, it is thought the invention will be fully under stood without further explanation.

What is claimed is:

1. In a razor including a handle, a clamp member, a blade and a guard member, the combination of an illuminating means carried by the handle, a pair of oppositely disposed arms carried by the handle and connected together at the outer ends having a screw thread connection with the clamp member, and a helical spring bearing against the guard member and the outer ends of the arms permitting the handle to be turned axially through the medium of the screw thread connection in :the direction necessary to dispose the illuminating means relative to the blade to properly illuminate the face.

2. The structure as of claim 1 and in which the illuminating means comprises a lamp bulb, means connected to the handle forY supplying current 'to the lamp bulb, and water resistant packing material closing both ends of the handle and preventing water reaching the current supplying means.
