UNITED STATES PATENT DFEICE.
EDWARD BECKER, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR F ONE-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO BUSSEY, MOLEOD & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
STOVE-LEG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,689, dated August 3, 1880.
' Application filed January 10, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, EDWARD BECKER, 'of the city of Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State 0t New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Manner of Constructing and Attaching the Feet of Stoves and Ranges, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the manner of constructing and attaching the legs or feet upon stoves and ranges, the object being to adapt them to be easily applied or removed, and to be firmly held in position when attached.
In the accompanying drawings there are r 5 two plates of illustrations, containing three figures, showing my invention, in all of which the same reference-letters are used to designate the same parts.
Figure 1 shows, in perspective, the under side of that part of the stove-base to which the legs or feet are applied. This illustration exhibits the hook or latch-formed catch, also the recess formed in the top to receive the inclined projection arranged upon and near the front of the flat top of the foot. Fig. 2 illustrates, in perspective, a top view of the detached foot or leg, showing the position of the slot formed in its top to receive the hook-catch.- It also exhibits the projecting incline upon its 0 top, which fits into the recess cut in the baseedge to wedge the foot under the hook. Fig. 3 shows, in vertical section, the combined foot and base, illustrating the relative position of the hook-catch when in contact with the in- 3 5 cline formed upon the under side of the foottop, also the position of the inclined projection upon the upper surface of the foot-top within the recess formed in the edgeof the base at the front.
The several parts are designated by letters of reference as follows: The letterN is used to denote the leg or foot; 0, its flat top, having the slotted opening S and the projection L, with the incline or beveled surface I A, part of the stove-base, having the downward-pro- 5 jecting hook or latch-catch H and the recess cut in its lower edge at D for the entrance of the projection L upon the foot. I
At I, Fig. 3, there is shown the incline surface formed upon the under side of the legtop. I
When the foot is applied to the stove-base the catch or hook enters the slot S, and as the foot is forced upward and the projection passes into the recess D the inclined surface I, pressing against theinner wall of the base at D, crowds the foot and its beveled surface I under the catch, where it is secured.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to' secure by Letters Fat cut, is-
A stove or range base having a downwardprojecting catch or hook, in combination with a stove-leg top having a slot to receive the catch or hook, which engages with an incline upon the under side of the top, and a projection having an incline, which engages with a notch in the rim of the base, substantially as set forth and described.
EDWARD BEoKEE.
