Gaiter Clasp or Fastening.
BYl
WITNESSES UN'ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CASPER RIESE, OF BERLIN, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
GAITER CLASP OR F'ASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,498, dated July 27, 1880.
Application filed May 31, 1880.
(Model.) Patented in Germany April 13, 1880, iu France January 23, 1880, in Belgium December 15,
1879, and in Italy January 30, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CASPER RIESE, of Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented a new and Improved Gaiter Clasp or Fastening, of which the following is a specitication. Y
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved legging which fits closely to the foot and ankle and can be opened or closed very easily. y
In the accompanying drawings, Figurel 1 is a side View of my improved legging. Fig. 2 is a side view of a legging of a slightly diii'erent shape. Fig. 3 is a plan View ot' my improved spring-clasp for leggings. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view ofthe same. Fig. 5 is a side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The legging A, made of' cloth, leather, or any other suitable material, is provided with a strip, B, of somo elastic material or fabric, which may be arranged on either or both sides of the opening' of thelegging, and extends from the top to the bottom. The opening of the legging is closed by means of a series of springclasps, C, which are arranged on one side of the opening, whereas a series of eyes, into which the studs D of the clasps C pass, are arranged in corresponding positions on the other side.
The clasps C consist of a cap, E, of metal, having any suitable design, which cap is piv-k oted to two ears, F, of the base-plate Got' the clasp. A projection, H, at the rear of the ca'p E presses onto a spring-plate, J, attached to the base-plate G by the lower end of stud D. The caps E are first raised, the legging is drawn tightly, so as to fit well, and the studs D are passed into the corresponding eyes on theother side ot' the opening, and then the caps E are lowered, the spring J preventing the same from opi-ning by accident,l and thus the legging is et't'ectually closed. The elastic bands B permit the legging to be stretched, so that it can be used with heavy or light pantaloons and shoes, and the spring-clasps C cannot be opened bythe tension ofthe said elastic bands.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new Iand desire to secure by Letters Patent- The spring-*clasp C for leggings, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, and consistingot'a cap pivoted on a base-plate, provided with a lower spring-plate actin g upon the cap, and with a central stud which is adapted to pass intoeyes on the opposite side of the opening of' the legging, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v
CASPER RIESE.
