UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
SOLOMON P. BAUGHMAN, OF HERRING, OHIO.
cLEvls.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,700, dated April 5, 1881.
Application led December 10,1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
` Be it known that I, SOLOMON I. BAUGH- MAN, ot' Herring, in the county ol' Allen and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Plow-Ulevis, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple device for regulating the depth of the furrow made by the plow.
Figure l is a side elevation of a section' of a plow-beam with the device in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a plan of thell same, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation -of a modilication of the device.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corre- -spondin g parts.
In the drawings, A represents a plow-beam.
B is a metal strap passing over the end and upper and lower faces ot' the beam A, to strengthen the same.
C is the clevis. swiveled on the pin a, that passes laterally through the plow-beam A, and said clevis C has an ear, b, projecting upward from each side thereof', above .the upper face ot' the beam A, and between these ears b b is swiveled a plate, D, having a central screwthread, as indicated at d, through which plate D the adjusting screwrod G is passed.
In the rear of the clevis C a bolt, E, having ascrew-threadedhole,f, made through its head, is passed'down through the strap B and beam A, and secured in position by thepnut g ou its end, the head L of said bolt E projecting above the upper face ofthe beam A,and having passed Ahorizontally through it the rod H, that is designed to extend tothe plow-handle, within easy reach of the operator. E an eyebolt, F, for supporting the rear prolongation of the rod H, is'passed down through beam A and secured in place by a uut, 7c.
A short rod, G, provided with a left-hand' screw-thread `and with an eye, m, is passed plane.
In rear of the bolt from the rear through the hole d of the swiveled plate D, and a longer rod, H, provided with a right-hand screw-thread and with a hook. n, is passed through the hole f of the bolt E, and connected by means of its hook n with the eye m of the rod Gr. .l This rod H is prolonged rearward through the eye of the eye- Figs.1 and 2,is hinged orjointed on both sides,
as shown at p, to the lugs N, that are firmly bolted on either side of the plow-bea1u A, so that said clevis O is free to move in a vertical Said clevis C is in all-other respects the same as that shown in Figs. l and 2.
I am aware that itis not new to raise or lower a draft-link plate by means of an angled lever on the beam connecting by a link with a handlever; also, that it is not new to coinbine a wheel, worm-shaft, rack, and pinion to raise or lower a clevis 5 but What I claim is- The combination, with a clevis, O, pivoted at a and having the ears b b, of the plate D, swiveled in said ears and centrally threaded, the looselyjointed and reverselythreaded bolts G E, the fixed nut jf, the guide F, and the crank 0, rigidly connected with bolt E, as shown and described.
SOLOMON PERRY BAUGHMAN.
