This invention relates to combination picturehangers and curtain tie-backs and the like artieles'.

An objectof-this invention is toprovide an article of the character described for hanging picturesor mirrors, whichmay be used with or without a molding; the construction being-such that the hanger may-"be nailed to the wall even when'used with a molding.

Anothe object of this invention is to provide an article of the character describ'ed which may be used-asatiebach-for curtains or drapes and when used as suchmay-be fastenedto a wall.

Still another object of this invention-is to pro vide aneat-and durable article-ofthe character described which shall be relatively inexpensive-to manufacture easyto apply, attractive-in appearance, and withal practical and efiicient to a high degree in use.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, I 0 designates an article embodying the invention, here shown in the form of a combination picture hanger and tieback. The article I!) comprises a member ll made of a single blank of sheet metal having a fiat intermediate portion I2 formed with a central opening [211, and a rolled over portion l3 extending from the upper end of said first portion. Said ortion I3 is substantially of semi-cylindrical shape, terminating in an end edge l4; and is formed with a substantial 55 square openin ls having side edges l6 parallel. totheside-edges Ilrof-saidportion and edges I8 parallel :to said 1 end edge. The openings 26 may be replaced by notches in the side edges of portion 25.

Attached to member I I is a rosette or ornament 30 of any suitable kind having a stud screw 3| projecting through the opening 12a and being fastened to portion 12 of said member by a nut 32 on said screw.

When using the article In as a picture or mirror hanger, the same may be hung on a molding 35 with the curved portion 13 engaging the top bead 36 thereof. Anail 22 may be driven through opening 2| into the wall 31. The lower edge 25 contacts the bottom of the molding.

A cord 40 supporting the picture or mirror 4| is looped through the openings 26 and over the strip of metal 42 separating said openings. The space between the portion 25 and the rosette 30 accommodates the portions of the cord passing downwardly through said openings.

Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate the article i0 as a tieback. As shown in Fig. 3, the cord passes through Openings 26 and I5, and is looped about the curtains or drapes 45 and attached to a hook 4i screwed to the wall.

As shown in Fig. 4, the tab 20 is engaged with one hook and the cord 40 is looped through openings 26 and around strip 42, the outer end being attached to another hook 5|. Instead of hook 50, a nail may be driven through the opening 2| for fastening the tieback to the wall.

In Fig. 6, there is shown a combination hanger and tieback Ina, illustrating a modified construction. The device 10a comprises a member Ila attached to a rosette 30a. The member I la is in the form of an open frame and has a counterpart for each part of member H, as will appear hereinafter, Said member H comprises a part 54 made of suitably shaped wire stock having parallel straight portions 55 from which extend similar, curved, semi-circular portions 55 interconnected by a portion 5'! parallel to the plane of said straight portions. Extending from said straight portions 55 are similar parallel portions 58 inclined to the plane of said straight portions, terminating in inwardly looped, contacting eye let 59. The straight portions 55 are interconnected by a cross strip 66 soldered or Welded thereto and having a central opening. 65. A cross piece 62 interconnects the curved portion 55 and is soldered or welded thereto. A small U-shaped loop 63 is soldered or welded to portion 57 of member 54, forming an eyelet therewith.

It will now be understood that the member H functions in a manner similar to member Ha.

A nail or fastening member may be driven through loop 63. The member may be hooked on a molding. The cord may be looped through the eyelets 59 and passed between portion 51 and cross piece 62. The rosette may be screwed to cross piece 60 through opening Bl,

In Fig. 5, there is shown a member I lb similar to member I I, except that the former has notches 70 in the sides of the curved portion thereof to receive the cord 40. Furthermore, there is hinged to the bottom of the inclined portion as at H, a Wire hook 12 adapted to receive a nail or other fastening means for fastening the hanger to the wall. The hook 12 may be swung against the inner side of said member II.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a devicein which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is Well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. An article of manufacture comprising a member having an intermediate portion, an upper curved portion at one end of said intermediate portion adapted to hookingly engage a molding on a wall, and a lower portion atthe other end of said intermediate portion extending from the plane thereof to the same side as said curved portion and adapted to contact said molding, and a tab extending from said curved portion adjacent the end of said curved portion, and bent upwardly away from said curved portion and having an opening t receive a nail, adapted to be driven into the wall.

2. An article of manufacture comprising a member having an intermediate portion, an upper curved portion at one end of said intermediate portion adapted to hookingly engage a molding on a Wall, and a lower portion at the other end of said intermediate portion extending 'from the plane thereof to the same side as said curved portion and adapted to contact said molding, and a tab extending from said curved portion adjacent the end of said curved portion, and bent upwardly away from said curved portion and having an opening to receive a nail, said lower portion having an opening to receive a cord, and said pper curved p rtion having an opening, and said tab extending from one end of said last-mentioned opening.
