1 Claim. (01. 242-17) My invention relates to a new and useful wind.- ing and spooling apparatus or device in which wires or the like material are spooled on bobbins or the like simultaneously and it is the principal object of my invention to provide such an apparatus in which a plurality of spools are receiving a length of wire or yarn from'a supp y uniformly wound, and when properly filled can be removed from the apparatus by means of individually operable clutches.
Another object of my invention is to provide such an apparatus equipped with a suitable speed regulator regulating the speed of the winding operation to suit the requirement.
A further object of my invention is the provision of such a spooler in which a cam controlled frame ensures the uniform winding of the mate rial onto the individual spools.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a spooler of this type in which a lever operated clutch allows the proper adjustment of a friction clutch or disc for varying the speed.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds and will then be specifically defined in the appended claim.

As illustrated, a frame In is suitably mounted on a platform I l and a shaft i2 journaled in said frame near its lower end, carries a drive pulley Within the frame the shaft l2 carries a sprocket wheel l4 engaging a chain i5 which at the rear of the frame is upwardly guided over a sprocket gear l6, and on top of the frame over a sprocketwheel H on a shaft l8 journaled in a suitable bracket on top of frame 10. This frame receives a reciprocatory lateral movement by means of the following elements, and for a purpose hereinafter more fully to be described: An operating bar 53 is pivotally secured to the vertical frame bar 50 of the movable frame 42, 43, 48, 49, 5| and 52 by means of the studs 54, 55, and the lower end of this bar 53 is slotted, as at 56 while a pin 51 displaceable in this slot engages the groove 58 of a cam 59 on shaft 60 journaled in the frame Ill and extending therefrom carries a worm gear 6| engaged by a worm 62 on a shaft 63 carrying a friction disc 64 adjustably arranged thereon by means of a clutch 66 operable by means of a member 61 on an angular handle 68.
Handles 10 with their inner fork-shaped members 69 serve to operate a clutch 1| against a spring 12 on each of the spindles 34, 35, 36, 31, 38 and 39 respectively to allow the removal and exchange of completely filled spools.
The lateral reciprocatory movements of the frame 42, 43 is producing a uniform winding of the material upon each spindle through the feeding of the wire etc. through eyes 13 on members 69 on stub shafts 14 the outer ends of which are connected to the frame bar 43.
The spooler operates as follows: After adjustment of the speed regulating friction disc 64 to the desired spooling speed, the drive wheel I3 is started by the driving motor or the like to operate by the intermediary of the chain l5 the spindles 34 and spools thereon. The consequent operation of the spindle 63 with the friction disc will operate the worm and worm gear and the cam on the shaft 60. The engagement of the pin 51 in the groove of the cam will operate frame 42, 43 by means of bar 53 to produce a lateral movement of the bar 43 and this reciprocatory movement will produce a uniform winding of the wire etc. upon the individual spools. In order to avoid a wedging of the rollers 46 and 41 against the bar 4| and impede the movement of the frame, the pivot pin 54 is displaceable in a slot 54' in bar 53, As soon as any of the spools is completely filled, the operation of the lever III will disengage the respective spool to be exchanged for an empty one.
It will be understood that I have described and shown the preferred form of my apparatus as one example only of the many possibleways to construct the device and the minor details thereof, and I may make such changes therein as come within the scope of the appended claim without departure from the spirit of my invention and the principles involved.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a multiple spindle spooler including a plurality of spool spindles and bobbins thereon, a worm carrying shaft in the machine frame, an
' said stub shafts through which the material to said bobbins is guided during the reciprocatory lateral movement of said frame while the spindles are being rotated, means to rotate said spindles to produce a uniform winding of the material to be spooled upon the individual bobbins, and means to detachably mount each of the spools on its spindle.
