Description

Oct. 9, 1945. I B. JOHNSON 2,386,612
' FA'STENER FOR GOLD WAVE ROLLERS Filed Sept. 15, 1944 INVENTORQ A'ITCI R N EYE Patented Oct. 9, 1945 UNITED STATES I PATENT FFl CE FASTENER ROLLERS Bertha Johnson, Nashville, Tenn.
Application September 15, 1944, Serial No. 554,243 2 Claims. (01. 13242) The invention relates to a hair wave fastener for a cold wave roll or roller.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character, wherein hair can be sustained curled about a cold wave roll or'roller, the fastener being conveniently actuated in its association with the said roll or roller, either for-the holding of the curled or waved hair thereon or the release of the latter without damage to the same.
Another object of the invention is the'provision of a fastener of this character, wherein it can be operated with dispatch for the securing of the curl or wave of hair upon the roll or for the removal of the curl or wave from the latter, the fastener being manually controlled at will by the user of the roll for cold waving of the hair in the ordinary well known manner.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character, wherein it is a permanent part of the hair curler or roll, and
is handy for prompt service, which is necessary in cold Waving the hair, the fastener being novel in construction and unique in the arrangement thereof with-the roll. r
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable, readily and easily operated in its association with the curling roll, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detaiL'illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the roll with the hair curled thereon and fastened in place by the fastener constructed in accordance with the invention. V
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing the fastener in released position, and the hair curl removed from the roll.
Figure 4 is an end View of the roll and the fastener fragmentarily shown therewith.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate correspending parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referringto the drawing in detail, A designates generally the hair curler or roll having the intermediate concaved area l0 and the outer blunt rounded ends II and I2, respectively, which is a common well known construction, and to this curler or roll is attached permanently a fastener denoted at B, constituting the present invention, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The fastener B comprises a determined length of cord I3, which has one end anchored by a knot M in a clearance l5 diagonally disposed to the longitudinal axis of the curler or roll A in the end H with the major portion of such cord free centrally of such end I I, so that this major portion can be engaged in and drawn through a bifurcation l6 provided in the other end l2 of the roll or curler, to have the intermediate length of the said cord over-ride the hair I! which is adapted to be securely rolled on the area In for cold waving purposes by the curler or roll A. The end of the cord engageable with the bifurcation I6 is formed with a terminal knot l8, so that this end cannot accidentally pull through the cap l9 and become separated therefrom.
Loosely fitted on this cord I3 and removably engageable with the end [2 having the bifurcation l6 therein is a thimble-like holding cap H) which fricti'onally slides onto the said end l2 to secure the cord l3 therein and against slippage after adjustment of such cord for the retention of the hair curled on the curler or roll A for cold waving of the hair thereby, yet the said cord [3 can be freed by the removal of the cap l9 from the end I2 to release the curl or wave from the curler or roll A when desired.
The cord I3 is tightened by drawing it through the bifurcation IS in the end 12 remote from the end ll of the curler or roll, as is best seen in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing. The fastener B is manually. controlled in the working thereof as before described. The cord so securely holds the hair on the rod, or roller as to prevent its slipping oif. The device is well adapted to provide end curls in longer hair. What is claimed is: I
1. A fastener for a curling roll having an intermediate concave curling area and outer blunt ends, comprising a cord secured at one end to one of the blunt ends of the roll and detachably and adjustably engageable in a bifurcation formed in the other blunt end of said roll, and a freely movable cap on the cord and removably engageable on the other blunt end of said roll, a freely movable cap on the cord and removably engageable on the said other blunt end of the roll to sustain the cord fast therein and knots 0n the ends of the cord to retain it secured to the roll and also holding the cap attached to such cord.
