Shirt.
No. 238,049. Paten ted Feb. '22, 1881.
& PETERS, 'PHDTO-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D. C4
"Nrrno PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. MOTT, OF OATSKILL, NEW YORK.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,049, dated February 22, 1881. Application filed June 22, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. Mom, of Catskill, in the county of Greene and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the combinatiomin a shirt, of a body, a neck-band, and a bosom so combined that the neck-band is connected to the body throughout its length, and the bosom is connected to the neck band, to that portion of the body contiguous to the neckband, and to the shoulder-seams, but is unconnected to the body below the neck-band.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front View of a shirt embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is an edge or side View thereof.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
A designates a shirt, which may be of the ordinary or any other suitable make, the neckband being attached to the body throughout its length.
B designates the bosom thereof, which may be of the ordinary or any other desirable shape. It may be stitched along the edges and plaited or ornamented to suit the taste, and provided with stud or button holes but it is attached only at the neck-band, the portion of the body contiguous to the neck-band, and also along the'shoulder-seams, by means of stitching.
As the remaining part is free, provision is afiorded for conveniently laundering, starching, or ironing the bosom independently of the shirt. When in use a circulation of air is to some extent afforded between it and the shirt, and the bosom can remain smooth and flat while the shirt-front works up behind it through the motions of the wearer when his body is moist from perspiration.
The bosom may be provided with a tab, a, for attaching it to a shirt, if desirable.
I am aware that shirts have been made in which the neck-band is attached to the body only at the back of neck-opening, and the bosom is attached at upper edge only to the front of neck-band and shirt-body, and therefore do not claim this as my invention.
What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, the shirt A with the bosom B secured to the shirt only at the shoulder-seams and along the front portion of the neck-band, and the neck-band stitched down along its entire length to the shirt, as herein shown and described.
