Description
'Patented Jan. 9, 1945 RAZOR BLADE CARRIER Zemach Auerbach, New York, N. Y., assigner to Zeechar Corporation, a corporation of New York Application September 25, 1942, Serial No. 459,645
Claims. (Cl. 20G-16) This invention relates to double-edged safety razor blade carriers for safely carrying the blade and protecting the cutting edges of lhe blade.
More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide a simple and inexpensive carrier for double-edged safety razor blades which permits easy and safe handling by the user since the cutting edges are protected at all times until the carrier is-separated from the blade ready for use.
In my application, Serial No. 457,403, my blade carrier has an adhesive medium for holding the blade upon the carrier. My numerous experiments have shown that the use of an adhesive medium is not at all times entirely satisfactory, since the adhesive medium is affected by atmospheric conditions; the adhesive due to heat may become su'iciently soft to loosen the blade, or may harden to make it dinicult to release the blade from the carrier; some adhesives may affect the steel of the blade. This invention does not employ the use of adhesives.
My experiments have further revealed that the blade carrier shown and described in my aforesaid application, the handling required a certain degree of skill and experience. Furthermore, the blade has a tendency to spring from the razor at the time when the carrier is peeled off the blade.
In my instant application no skill or experience is required in removing the carrier from the blade and there is absolutely no possibility of the blade springing from the razor.
A further object of my invention is to provide a carrier for blades which simply and easily locks the.blade, into the carrier, protecting the cutting edges of the blade so that the carrier can be safely and easily separated from the blade.
A further object of my invention is to provide a carrier for use with blades so that; the carrier can be easily stacked in a simple package such as a book or pad.
A further object of my invention is to provide a carrier of simple construction so that simple and inexpensive machinery for assembly is required.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of my invention, reference is had to the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the carrier being separated from the blade in a razor.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my blade carrier.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the blade carrier showing the hingeable members inl unlocked position for receiving the blade.
-of the razor blade I6.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the blade locked into the carrier.
Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a modified blade carrier.
Fig. is a top plan view of the blade carrier shown m Fig. 5 with the hingeable members in open position.
Referring to the drawing, numeral I0 represents a safety razor blade carrier of one piece' and of rectangular shape, made of exible material, such as paper, plastic or like material and having hingeable members Il adjacent to each of the four corners of the carrier. Each hingeable member I is comprised of a holding portion I2 and a locking portion |3. Hingeable member I is slitted around all its sides, except the hinge portion which is scored at I4. Holding portion I2 is raised at I5 to accommodate the thickness The central portion of carrier l0 has openings I1 to accommodate the openings in the blade. The holding portions l2 of the hingeable members are spaced apart; to receive the corners of the blade I6.
In order to use carrier I0, the hingeable members I I are turned vupwards at right angles. The blade I6 is dropped between the holding portions I2 of the hingeable members which are then pressed downward so that the holding portions I2 cover the corners of blade I6 and the locking portions |3 enter the slits I8 of the carrier and are then held there by frictional engagement.
Referring to Figs. l to 4, inclusive, numeral I9 vrepresents another safety razor blade carrier which is a modification of the carrier shown in Figs. 5 and 6. This carrier has a central rectangular opening 20 and hingeable members 2| at each of the four corners of the rectangular opening 20. Each hingeable member 2| is comprised of a holding portion 22 and a locking p0rtion 23. Hingeable member 2| is slitted at 24, 25 and 26 and scored at 30. Holding portion 22 is raised at 21 to accommodate the shoulder 28 of a slotted double edged blade 29. The holding portions 22 of hingeable members 2| are spaced apart to receive the shoulders 28 of blade 29.
In order to use carrier I9, the hingeable members 2| are turned upwards at right angles, as shown in Fig. 3. The blade 29 is dropped between the holding portions 22 of the hingeable members 2| which are then pressed downward so that the holding portions 22 cover the shoulders 28 of blade 29 and tbe locking portions 23 enter the slits 24 and 25 of the'carrier and are then `held there by frictional engagement.
In order-to use the blade 29 and carrier I9,
the razor is opened and held in one hand while the carrier is grasped at one end with` the thumb, index and middle ilnger o1' the other handv and placed with the blade on the underside oi' the carrier with the slotted portion of the blade over the post 3| of the razor. The post 3| falls between the index and middle nger and while the index and middle fingers press upon the carrier,
the thumb raises the end of the carrier causing two or the hingeable .members 2| t0 open, as shown in Fig. 1, releasing the shoulder 28 of the blade 29. The carrier is then moved toward the opposite end of the blade causing the opposite shoulder of the blade to slide from the holding portions 22 of the carrier. The razor is then closed with the blade in shaving position.
The carrier l and blade I6 shown in` Figs. 5 and 6 `is used in the same manner as described for the carrier I9 and blade 29 shown in Figs. 1
to 4, inclusive.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made inthe details of construction Without departing from the general spirit of the invention, as set forth in the appended claims.
