Divided and this application May 25, l` f t i942, Sammarinese t t i claims. (ci. 21e- 38) e This Vapplication is a division` of my copending application Serial No.' 264,358, filed March 2'l, 1939, no wPatentNo. 2,283,952, the subject matter of this application being disclosed in Figures` 21 to24 inclusive of that application.V
My invention relates to" electric vaporizersof the hand type for generating hot medicated vapors for` inhalation in the relief of head colds, sinus infection, cata`rrh, and other aillictions `of the upper respiratory organs. Among the objects is to simplify and improve vaporizers of this type, and to arrange so that the nasal piece or cover whilst readily applicable to and removable from the base or handle of the vaporizer will have a binding or wedging lit therewith that secures it against accidental `dislodgement therefrom and resulting breakage. These and other objects of 3 A cap or cover B, having a tapering 'nozzle '|8, is set over the` container E andfor a short disf tanceat its bottom has j a" wedgingiitwith the t, bulge |2| `of thesleeve' `3 9` to prevent Wobbling ofthe cover Bon the container `E and accidental f dislofdgement therefrom. l, The `cover is provided l with a plurality of vertically extending serrations" j or grooves 'I9 through which, on inhalatiomsmall streams of air flow into the cup 38 where they i entrain the vapors and are directed to the nasal my invention will be explained in more detail in the followingdescription, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a vertical section, approximately twice size, through my improvement; t
Figure 2 is a plan `view ofthe heater shown in Figure 1. In this view the container is omitted; f Figure 3 is `a side elevation of the heater disclosed in Figure 2, showing a part of the insulatingcover of the heater broken away, and
Figure 4 is a vertical section through the container and heater assembly shown in Figure 1 illustrating a modification of the method lof packing` the heater within the sealed containerheater unit comprising the parts 38,13 and |22. Referring tothe drawing: My improved vaporizer includes a container E comprising a single piece ofmetal turned back on itself to form the cup 38 and the skirt 39. At its lower end the passages by the nozzle 1,8, the air currents being heated in this journey by the hot walls of the container The modication shown in Figure 4 consists merely in substituting a pliable insulating packing |26 for the ceramic base |21 shown` in Figure 1. In either ofthese embodiments of my invention it` will be understo-od that the resistance coil 13, when covered with a suitable insulation, such as the asbestos covering shown in these figures, may be` tightly packed or Wadded in the metallic housing |22 Without the use of a ceramicbase or otherextra insulating material.
. My improvement does not employ a switch other i than the one at the electric socketinto which the `vaporizer is plugged. If no switch is present in Lil skirt is outwardly flared or tapered as shown at` |2| and is pressed tightly over ahollow metallic base |22, the t between these` two parts being liquid tight. The skirtf39 is then spun or turned over the bottom of the base A|22 as at |23. Withthe cup 38.` The heater includesa ceramic base |21 and a suitable resistance coil `I3 mounted thereon. `The cables of the electric cord 32 are connected to the resistance coil in any suitable manner asby metallic strips |24. The metallic t base |22 is reduced in diameter to form a neck |25 which is pressedinto or otherwise secured to i the handle A as shown in Figure 1, the connection between the handle and the neck being liquid tight. When thus assembled none of the contents such socket, the conventional plug (not shown) in the outer end of the cord 32 is pulled out of the electric socket, thus breaking the circuit. i To ;free the terminal connections |24 of any undue i strain during this operation, or from other cause,
`a suitable stop or clamp |28, through which the electric cord 32 passes, is tightly pressed into the handle` A, or is otherwise secured thereto, and
the cord is `knotted above the stop at |29 for relief engagement Withthe latter.
The right is reserved to le a divisional appli- `cation or'applications covering any of the subject matter of thisapplication which may not be claimable herein and no abandonment is made of any sub-ject matter not adequately claimed herein.
What I claim is:
