This invention relates to a combined drier and holder orcontainer for use with safety razor blades of the thin, fiat and usually double-edged type in extensiveuse at the present time, for drying the blades after shaving and for enclosing and protecting one or more blades to keep them in good condition ready for use."

One object of my invention is to provide a combined drier and container for razor blades which -is of practical and desirable novel construction; which can be readily used for drying a blade after its use for shaving, and for conveniently storing and protecting it alone or together with other blades until needed for use; which is of simple and inexpensive construction; which is of neat and attractive appearance and of small compact size adapting it to be placed in the usual small razor set receptacle or box for preserving and protecting one or more razor blades until needed for use.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following specification of the preferred embodiments of the invention shown in the accompanying drawing, and the novel features of the invention are set forth in the appended claims.

'Referring first to the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1-4 of the drawing, the device comprises a cover 10 and an inner body or filler II in the form of a strip of absorbent sheet material, such for example as blotting paper, which is pleated or folded upon itself to form a plurality of folded ordouble ply leaves between which'a'razor blade or blades can be placed and dried by closing the leaves against opposite sides of the blade or blades, said cover being provided with fastening means'for holding it closed about the folded absorbent filler for retaining the blades in position between. the filler leaves and protecting them. IThese side flaps could be integral side' wings or portions of "the cover strip, but the use of'theseparate flap "stripsf23 prevents the waste that would result from cutting or blanking out cover strips withintegral flaps.

When thecover is closed with the side. flaps '22 folded in between the cover and the absorbent the leaves are closed, while the cover is only of sufficiently larger dimensions than the folded filler to enable the cover when closed tov properly enclose the filler. Thus, the device is small and compact enough to adapt it to be used in the smal1 razor set cases or receptacles now in extensive use in place of the blade container that is ordinarily supplied with the razor set.

Preferably, the cover strip is embossed to provide a marginal bead 24 along its opposite side edges and at its free end. This embossed bead forms a raised or offset flange which stiffens the edge portions of the cover strip and acts to hold the cover leaves fiat or prevent them from bowing or bending between the folding lines of the cover strip. This preserves the flat, neat exterior appearance of the leaves of the cover and stiffens them so as to better hold the filler leaves firmly closed against the intervening blades. Preferably the bead is continued around the free end and securing tongue I9 of the cover to stiffen it, and a similar bead 25 is also embossed on the cover leaf 14 along the tongue s'lit 2B. This slit, as shown, has an oblique extension 26 at one end tobetter facilitate the insertionand removal of the tongue into and from the slit, and the bead 25 .is' shown as. continued across the opposite straight end of the slit,'to thereby lessen the possibility of the slit being torn or enlarged in the use of the device. The embossed-bead at the side edges of the cover strip is broken at the folding lines ofthe cover or thatis, the folding creases extend through the bead, so that the bead will not prevent the intendedfolding'of the cover at the folding lines. i

When the device is left with the leaves spread open, as in Fig. 1, the moisture will readily evaporate therefrom and dry out the absorbent material. It will be noted that when the leaves of the filler are closed, the leaf next to the attached end of the filler strip will overlie and cover the securing staple 2| for the strip, and thus prevent possibility of the cutting edge of the blade from contacting and being injured by the securing means. There is no part which can engage and dull 0r injure the Nevertheless, this disposition of of smaller dimensions, since in its closed condition, the securing means wil1 be located between the folded'edges of the filler leaves, so that no additional width of the leaves is necessary for securing the filler in the cover, and the leaves may be, as stated, approximately of the same or only very slightly larger dimensions than the razor blades. Thus, the device is of small size and of exceedingly simple and inexpensive construction, making it suitable,.for instance, to be distributed free to users, as'an advertising or sales promotion medium. The described design and construction of the device saves material and die-cutting costs because of the separate piece used for the side flaps, instead of cutting a cover strip having the flaps from a, solid piece, thus eliminating waste. Because of the small size and simple construction, the device can be produced cheaper than previous driers. Assembling and processing costs have been cutto the minimum. The described embossing strengthensv and stiffens the cover and better preserves its fiat, rectangular and neat appearance, and ensures a tighter closure and better drying and protection of the blades, and prevents the tearing of the fastening tongue orslit.

In the device illustrated, the free end of the filler strip; is provided with a slit 2! in which the cover fastening tongue. l9 can be inserted if desired, when the filler is spreadv out, as shown in Fig. 1, to thus insure holding'theabsorbent leaves open or separated. the cover, and the cover strip :llb is provided with the inwardly folded securing extension 30 of the-form shown inFigs. and-16, but in this construction the tongues 33 of the securing extension are inserted through registering holes in the filler strip and in the -flap strip 23b, thereby securing both the filler strip and flap strip inplace in the cover. I 1' In'the embodiments shown in Figs. 5-8, the absorbent filler strip is removably secured in the cover, thus enabling replacement of an old or used filler "strip or refills to be used in the same cover. This makes the cover of more permanent Value and saves the user expense. A cover or leather or more expensive or desirable material could therefore be used with economy.

As clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the cover fastening tongue I9 is undercut or of hook form at one side while the opposite side edge of the tongue slopes back at an obtuse angle to the adjoining edge of the flap 11. Due to such form, the tongue can be easily engaged in the slit 20 by first inserting the point of the hook in the slit in an oblique direction and the tongue can be easily disengaged by an opposite oblique pull on th flap IT. Nevertheless the hooked end of the tongue will engage the adjacent end of the slit and prevent its accidental withdrawal from the slit and opening of the cover by a direct lengthwise pull on the tongue flap. The embossed bead along the inner side of the slit further facilitates the insertion of the tongue, since it tends to hold this edge of the slit from bending while pressure on the tongue will depress the opposite edge of the slit more easily and thus open it. By making the slit in the edge or side of the bead also aids in the insertion of the tongue because the inner edge of the slit is thus on the sloping side of the bead or somewhat above the opposite edge of the slit.

I claim:

1. A razor blade drier and container comprising a cover of relatively thin stiff sheet material having two leaves hingedly connected to close and open towards and from each other like the covers of a book, and a filler consisting of a separate long narrow strip of absorbent sheet material pleated to form folded leaves and disposed between the cover leaves with its pleat folds parallel with the free end edges of the cover leaves, said filler strip being secured at one end thereof to the inside of one of said cover leaves, said cover having at its opposite sides foldable flaps adapted to be folded inwardly between the cover and said filler when the filler leaves are closed together, and means integral with said cover for releasably fastening the leaves in closed position to retain one or more blades in place between said absorbent leaves.

A razor blade drier andcontainer comprising a cover of relatively thin stiff sheet material having two leaves hingedly connected to close and open towards and from each other like the covers of a book, and a filler consisting of a separate long narrow strip of absorbent sheet material pleated to form folded leaves and disposed between the cover leaves with its pleat folds parallel with the free end edges of the cover leaves, said filler strip being secured at one end thereof to the inside of one of said cover leaves, and a separate elongated flap strip secured crosswise in said cover and forming projecting foldable flaps at opposite sides of the cover adapted to be folded inwardly between the cover and said filler when the filler leaves are closed together,

3. A razor, blade .drierand container comprising apcover strip of relatively thin stiff sheet material folded to form-two connectedflleaves arranged to,.close and open like the covers of a book, and a filler, consisting of a separate strip, of absorbent sheet material pleated to form folded leavesand disposed between the cover leaves with its pleat-folds parallel with the free end edges of the cover leaves, one leaf of said cover strip having at its free end an extension folded in between the cover leaf and the filler and attached-to the adjacent end of said filler strip for securing the filler in the cover, and means integral with the cover for releasably fastening the leaves in closed position to retain one or more blades in place between said absorbent leaves.

4. A razor blade drier and container comprising a cover strip of relatively thin stiff sheet material folded to form two connected leaves arranged to close and open like the covers of a book, and a filler consisting of a separate strip of absorbent sheet material pleated to form folded leaves and disposed between the cover leaves with its pleat folds parallel with the free end edges of the cover leaves, said cover strip having an integral extension thereof at one end folded inwardly and having integral portions which interlock with integral portions of the adiacent end of said filler strip for securing the filler in the cover, and means integral with the cover for releasably fastening the leaves in closed position to retain one or more blades in place between said absorbent leaves.

5. A razor blade drier and container comprising a cover of relatively thin stiff sheet material having two leaves hingedly connected to close and open towards and from each other like the covers of a book, and a filler consisting of a separate strip of absorbent sheet material pleated to form folded leaves and disposed between the cover leaves with its pleat folds parallel with the free end edges of the cover leaves, said filler strip being secured at one end thereof to the free end of one of said cover leaves, said other cover leaf having a foldable fastening extension with a tongue arranged to engage in a slit in the first cover leaf for releasably fastening the leaves in closed position to retain one or more blades in place between said absorbent leaves,

and said tongue also being adapted to be inserted in a slit in the free end of said filler strip to retain the filler leaves in opened position.

6. A razor blade drier and container comprising a cover strip of relatively thin stiff sheet material folded to form two connected leaves arranged to close and open like the covers of a book, and a filler consisting of a separate strip of absorbent sheet material pleated to form folded leaves and disposed between the cover leaves with its pleat folds parallel with the free end edges of the cover leaves, an elongated flap strip arranged crosswise between the filler and one cover leaf and forming projecting foldable side flaps adapted to be folded inwardly between the second cover leaf and the filler when the filler leaves are closed together, and a single means fastening the filler and flap strips to said first cover leaf for securing said strips in the cover, and means integral with the cover for releasably fastening the leaves in closed position to retain one or more blades in place'betwe'en absorbent leaves. i I r '7.
