(o1. 20s-7s) the lower part of the recess and partake of the 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a display package and is particularly adapted for the display ofsuch articles as braided cords or materials of elongated length.
Considerable difculty has been experienced in the display of round cords such as are used for Venetian blinds by reason of their round character of construction. The spacing apart of objects of this character so as to provide a uniform appearance has met with considerable difficulty in the manufacture and construction of a display package. Also, there is the problem of keeping the articles clean and attractive in appearance as well as permitting them to be viewed and accessible to the hand.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a simple form of package by which such articles as round braided cords may be attractively displayed.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a form of package that the cords may be quickly placed in uniform spaced relation.
Another object of the invention is to provide identification strips which may be previously formed and used in connection with the cords because of their uniform spacing.
Another object of the invention is to protect these cords from dust or dirt.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view partially broken away illustrating the package which is provided;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a portion of the showing of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Fig. l;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of a portion of the structure such as shown in Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the corrugated backing member into which the articles to be displayed are positioned; and
Fig. '7 is a perspective view of the package minus the articles to be displayed and in open position illustrating the folding of the parts.
In order to avoid the many difficulties in the mounting of round cords for display purposes, I have utilized the ordinary corrugated sheet board material which is pressed into an undulating form with the recesses evenly spaced. The spacings are such as to be greater than the diameter of the articles to be received, and accordingly by placing these articles in position they move to spacing ofthe recesses.- These cords are then secured in position by cementI and by U-shaped bindings upon which some designation as to catalog numbers or color may be placed. The Whole is assembled in a book-like cover which may be readily opened, and a Window may be provided in the front part of the cover for observing the articles therein.
With reference to the drawing, I0 designates a sheet of corrugated material having evenly spaced recesses II therein between the projections I2 and forming a wave-like or undulating surface. The articles to be displayed in the particular formation of the invention here illustrated are braided cords, designated I4, and of different colors or combination of colors such as would form the complete line of the merchant. Short lengths of these cords I4 are placed in the recesses II of the corrugated material I0, such as shown in Fig. 4; and by the use of cement along the edges of this material IIJ these cords will be held in place each in its individual recess; and by reason of the cords being of smaller size than the distance between the recesses, these cords will be evenly spaced, such as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.
A U-shaped binding member I5 having a back part I B and a front part II and a connecting bridge portion I8 is fitted about the edges of the cord in the corrugations, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 7, and are held in place by cement to the back surface of the corrugation and also to the front cords. These strips are convenient for the printing of the catalog numbers and color names of the cords; and this printing will be evenly spaced lengthwise of these strips such as II for this purpose and may be predetermined as to position by reason of the even spacing of the cords in the corrugated material.
This entire assembly may then be mounted within the book- like covers 20 and 2| for-med of sheet stock folded as at 22 and 23 to provide a back portion 24 between the two covers 2D and 2 I. An inner leaf 25 of transparent material may be secured to the back 24 by some convenient means. such as stapling. to provide a transparent sheet of material over the cords in their mounted position. such as shown in Fig. 1; while a window or cut-out portion 26 may be provided in the front cover 2! so that even when the covers are closed. some of the cords may be viewed through the transparent sheet 25, such as shown in Fig. 1.
By this arrangement avery convenient and attractive package is provided in which the assembly of round cords is evenly spaced and accessible to view, while protected through the transparent sheet, or may be accessible to the hand for feeling the material by swinging back the transparent sheet. Catalog designations are conveniently arranged, and the cords evenly spaced by the very simple adoption and use of a corrugated sheet of material.
I claim:
l. A display package comprising a backing of material having uniform undulations in generally the form of a sine curve with equally spaced par` K allel recesses, articles in each recess of a diameter at least twice the depth of the recess from one side of the backing material, means for cetions thereof, a one piece book-like cover enveloping said assembly and secured to said strip and having a window in the front wall thereof to expose the obverse face of the article mounting, and a transparent sheet of material between the front wall of the cover and the articles and of a. size to cover all of said articles and secured at n mlyoneofl its edges to the said cover and free tomove relative thereto and to said articles.
2. A display package comprising a backing of material having uniform undulations with equally spaced parallel recesses, articles in each recess of a diameter at least twice the depthl of the recess from one side of the backing material,
means for cementing each end portion of the articles in the recesses, a strip of substantially U- shape material adjacent each end of said articles for holding said strip in a predetermined position, said U-shazpe strip being of a dimension to extend over only the end portions of said articles to expose substantial portions thereof.
