This invention is a combinedcigarette case,
and lighter.
A lighter contemplated hereinv is one which employs a catalystfor igniting cigarettes wherein the vapor of alcohol or other vaporizable liquid carried by absorbent material is employed for effecting such action upon the catalyst, in the presence of atmospheric air, as will render such catalyst incandescent, so that fthe cigarette or the like applied thereto andjdrawn upon, may be ignited; and further a lighter of such catalytic type in which the cover is eliminated and the valve through which the mixture of vaporized fuel and air must flow to the catalyst to render it operative is automatically maintained in shutoff position, and selectively opened for the lighting of the cigarette by depressing a slidable member which extends from the bottom of the lighter casing. It is imperative that when the lighter is not in use the valve remain closed (in which case the slidable .rriember is in its inoperative extended, position), for it is known that if the catalyst remains under the influence of fuel vapor for a prolonged period in its inoperative state condensation will form on the catalyst, and render it inactive until the catalyst has been dried out. The condensation is aggra vated by the fact that the atmlosphericair which is mixed with the fuel vapor, carries moisture.
It is an object of the present invention to associate a catalytic lighter with a cigarette case in a compact, convenient and-neatly arranged manner. a
It is a further object of this invention to bring whereby the catalytic the case such-that the said slidable member will remain in its inoperative extended position during the time the lighter remains in the case.
It is a still further object Off the present 'in-,
vention to provide a seat in the case for'a cylindrical lighter of anyconvenient type and to further'provide openings in the cover and body of the case through which the body of the lighter will protrude and at which it will beheld by the cover and body of the casehwhen the latter is closed, the lighter providing means at said open-,
ings for blocking the escape of loose cigarette tobacco from the .case into'thepocket of the user or the passage of dirt or dust into the case; the opening in the body providing an entry for the finger of a hand to raise the lighter ofi'its seat and thus facilitate its withdrawal for use spectivly, within .-It yetanother object of the present invention to utilize a cylindrical lighter as embellishing means for t e case at the cover and body openings thereof. I
Another object of the present invention is to 5 provide a cigarette case for a cylindrical lighter having spaced fiangesdefiningopenings in the cover andbody' of the case at an end thereof, the flanges supporting and holding the lighter in'position. I
With the aforesa'd and other objects'in View, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more particularly-described, pointedout in the subjoined claims, and illustratedin the annexed drawing, wherein like parts'are designated by the same reference characters or numerals throughout the several views, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a combined cigarette case and lighter made in accordance with the'invention';
"Fig. '10; is a sectional view taken along line la-la of Fig. 1;
Fig. lb is a side view of the portion of the device shown in Fig. 1a; 7
a Fig. 2 is atop View of the device shown in Fig. 1', but being in open position. and drawn on a somewhat smaller scale;
Fig. 3 is asectional view taken along line 3-3 ofFig.2
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 ofFi .2;"
Fig. 5 is asectional view taken along line 5--5 of Fig.2; j
Fig.5 is aperspective view of a combined cigarette case and lighter embodying the invention in a somlewhat modified form.
Fig. "I is a detail sectional view taken along line l -'1, of Fig. 6; and c Fig. '8 illustrates a cigarette'case embodying the invention in" a further modified form.
In the drawing there is disclosed a flat cigarette case having a body portion 2| defined by the side. and end walls or flanges 22, 23, re- I which may be contained cigarettes 24. held against "the bottom of the body portion 2| by a conventional retainer member 26. Hinged to'a side wall 22 of the body portion 2| as by means-of the hinges 2T is a cover portion 28 which may also have side and end walls 29, 3!] respectively flushingly abutting against the sideand endwalls 22, 23 respectively of the body portion 2;l.- Conventional complementary latch Q 'li i iifl man p315, may be. pr ided to mainwith the bottom tain the cover 28 and body 2! ment.
in locked engage- The cover and body of the cigarette case any suitable material, such as, plastic, metal, etc.
Preferably at one end of bottom 25 of body preferably less than the diameter but preferably not less than the tion of the lighter by the members 6| 62. p
The cover 28 likewise has at one end a trans verse opening 40 similar to and which registers opening 33 vwhen the cigarette case is closed. This opening 40 has the spaced, preferably bevelled, side edges 4| which substantially engage the cylindrical wall of the lighter cover, respectively, of the cigarette case.
Figures 6 and 7 closed position.
The cover 28a and body portion 2| a are made deeper than the case of Figure 1 so as to accommodate a double layer of cigarettes 24, one layer 24c in the bottom 2| and another layer 24b in the case, the layers being separate from each other by divisional plates 62.
Figure 8 discloses the invention in a further modified construction to that heretofore disclosed) is provided end compartment 12 in the cover 61 for holding and retaining respectively, cigarette holder (not shown). The end compartments or sections 68 to Walls 13.
.Although the drawing and the above specification discloses the best modes in which the invention-ls at :present contemplated and embodied, it 15 Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. A combined said other of said portions is in closed positio said'lighter 'housing-substantially 7 engaging said case portions when said cover is in closed position whereby the lighter is held substantially against lateral movement, the said transverse opening in said body permitting the finger of the hand of the user of the cigarette case to contact said lighter housing and to raise it out of said lighter holding section when said cover is in open position, said transverse opening in said body being in width less than the diameter of said cylindrical housing and at least equal in length to that of the combined length of said cylindrical housing and said extension of said lighter to prevent movement of said valve extension relative to said cylindrical -housing upon positioning of said lighter in said lighter holding section at said transverse opening in said body, said lighter providing an end closure for said cigarette holding section.
3. A combined cigarette case and lighter comprising in combination a lighter having a cylindrical housing and a longitudinally movable extension in said case, and two oppositely dished case portions having a hinge connection therebetween, one of said portions providing a cigarette and lighter holding body, the other of said portions providing a cover for said body, the said case portions having substantially similar registering transverse openings through which portions of the said lighter protrudes when said other of said portions is in closed position, the width of said transverse opening in said body being less than the diameter but no less than the radius of said cylindrical housing and the length of said transverse opening in said body being at least equal to that of the combined length of said cylindrical casing and said extension of said lighter to prevent substantial longitudinal movement of said extension relative to said cylindrical housing upon positioning of said lighter in said lighter holding section at said transverse opening in said body, said transverse opening in said body permitting the finger of the hand of the user of the cigarette case to contact said lighter and to raise said lighter out of said lighter section when said cover is in open position.
