TTUNITED mm- Patented Feb. 25, 1941 PATENT OFFME 2,233,011 ATTACHMENT FOR GULTIVATORS oaos L. Hinds, Dedrich J. Goetz, and Pics 0. Dav is, Winters, Tex.
Application May 10,1940, Serial No. 334,369 3 Claims. (01. 97-47) This invention relates to farm 'cultivators of the tractor, power-lift type, and in such connection it relates more particularly to' anattachment for such cultivators.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a cultivator attachment having few moving parts, simplicity of arrangement and of strong and compact construction. The attach- I ment includes every adjustment necessary on a cultivator, is easy of operation and can be readily assembled or dis-assembled. When once adjusted to the desired soil working position of the shovels carried thereby, the attachment will remain in such position without variation.
The invention will be readily understood from a perusal of the following detailed description, taken in. connection with the accompanying drawing, and in the drawing:
Figure l is a top plan view in part of a tractor cultivator embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail side elevational view of the attachment per se, and partly broken away;
Figure 3 is a view of Figure 2, taken from the left in the drawing, and partly broken away;
Figures 4 and 5 are detail perspective views of clamping means for holding the parts in adjusted positions; and
Figures 6 and 7 are sectional detail views of Figure 3, said views being taken along the lines 6--6 and 1-4 respectively.
In accordance with the drawing the attachment consists of a supporting bar I having one end as at 2 secured by bolts or otherwise to the frame or any convenient part of a tractor cultivator indicated in Figure 1. The attachment is designed to be connected to each side of the tractor, each unit being the same on both sides, therefore only one of the units is shown in the drawing. The bar I is bolted to a similar bar 3 and'the bar 3 includes a flat piece of metal 4, welded to the bar 3, the flat piece being bolted to the rear axle housing 5 of the tractor. These two bars I and 3 support the working parts of the attachment rigidly in position. Brace rods may, if preferred, be fastened to the bar 3.
Slidably arranged on the bar I are clamping members 5, shown in detail in Figure 5, each of these clamping members having .a slot 1, each member having a threaded hole 8 for a set or looking screw. 9, as shown in Figure 2, whereby the clamping members tare held in working position. The bar I is slidable in the opening II]. The clamping members thus provide a supporting means for the vertically positioned pieces from Figures 6 and 7. The ends of this rod are;
however, rounded so that the rod may be supported in a rotatable fashion in holes made in the upper ends of the pieces II. This arrangement will be clear from Figure 3.
As shown in detail in Figure 6 there are provided the rods I6 having their inner ends as at I! enlarged to provide a hole for conformably fitting the rods over the rod I5 so that the rods It may be slid therealong in making the proper adjustments for the slidable foot pieces. These foot pieces, referred to above as the rods I4, are held to the bar I by the clamping members I'I, one of which members is shown in Figure 4. The foot pieces I4 are placed in the openings I8 in the clamping members II after these 'members are placed on the bar I and a set screw I9 is provided for each member I! to hold the foot piece in position. This foot piece arrangement therefore allows both lateral and vertical adjustment for the plow feet or shovels carried thereby.
For supporting the plow shovels or cultivator feet, there is provided a carriage consisting of the pieces 20 and 2| in pairs as will be apparent from Figure 1. Figure 2 shows how the inner end of the pieces 20 and 2I are bolted as. at 22 to the lower end of the rods or foot pieces I4 and having their outer ends similarly bolted at 23 to an L-shaped member 24. This L-shaped member is provided with a hole or holes indicated at 24 for connection of a plow shovel (not shown).
In Figures 2 and 7 are shown the means for connecting the attachment to a power lift of the tractor. This is provided for by means of a rod 26, similar to the rod I6 shown in Figure 6. This rod 26 has an enlarged end 2'! with an opening or square hole whereby it may slidably fit over the rod I5 and extends vertically upwardly from the rod I5. Pivotally connected to the outer end of the rod 28 is a rod which is rods 30 are also pivoted to the L-shaped member 24.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the plow shovels may be moved or adjusted both laterally and vertically. Also that after such adjustments are made the power lift will raise and lower the foot-piece carriage embodied in the paired pieces 20 and 2| and L-shaped member 24 to such varying positions as desired, one of such positions being shown by the dotted-lines in Figure 2. It will be apparent also that the L-shaped member 24 occupies a horizontal position at all times, irrespective of the oblique position of the other parts of the carriage.
While the disclosure reveals a practical working embodiment of the invention, the attachment is capable of some modifications, changes and alterations, such as would be in keeping with the disclosure .and which will come within-the scope and meaning of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A cultivator attachment for tractors having a power lift, comprising a bar connected to each side of the tractor body and extending laterally therefrom, .a plurality of clamping members slidably arranged on said bar, said clamping members having vertically adjustable rods and similarly movable cultivator foot-pieces mounted thereon, said attachment including an upper rod positioned above said bar and rotatably mounted on said vertically adjustable rods, means for connecting said upper rod to the cultivator footpieces and to said power lift of the tractor, whereby cultivator shovels carried by said foottachment including an upper rod positioned above said bar and rotatably supported on the upper ends of said vertically adjustable rods, a plurality of rods slidably mounted on said upper rod, one of which is connected to said power lift and the others to said foot-piece carriage whereby the foot-piece carriage may be raised and lowered by the power lift of the tractor.
3. A cultivator attachment for tractors as claimed in claim 2, said foot-piece carriage comprising an upper and a lower pair of links in spaced relation, an L-shaped member pivotally connected to the links, and a rod pivotally connected to said L-shaped member and similarly connected to each of said slidably arranged rods carried on said upper rod; said L-shaped member .adapted to carry a cultivator shovel and maintaining a substantially horizontal position during the raising and lowering operation and when stationary.
