IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED FIRE-SCREEN AND BLOWER.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,860, dated December 23, 1879; application filed October 1, 1879.

To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, WILLIAIVI T. BRADBERRY, of Allegheny,in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Combined Fire Screen and Blower, of which the following is a specification.

Figure l is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation of the same on line as w of Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to provide a device that shall serve both as a fire-screen and a blower for fire-places and stoves.

In the drawings, in which the device is shown as attached to a stove, A, the screen or blower B is shown with its sides engaged in vertical grooved strips (J, that are formed on either jamb D, and the said screen or blower B is counterbalanced by the weights E, that are connected with its upper corners by the cord or chain F, which passes over the pulleys G, that are fixed in the rear of the jamb D, on a level with the top of the panel H.

It will be seen that the arrangement of parts is such that the screen or blower B can be lowered so that its lower edge will rest upon the ash-pan I and in front of the grate K, thus serving as a screen for the fire in the said grate K, or it (the screen or blower B) can be elevated so that its upper edge will come in contact with the panel H, and its lower edge reach down to the. grate K, and in this posi tion the device B will serve as a blower.

I am aware that it is not new to arrange blowers for stoves so that they (the blowers) may be hoisted up or otherwise elevated when I not in use as blowers; but I know of no device resembling mine which, when the device is not in use as a blower, may be lowered and used as a fire-screen.

I do not, therefore, broadly claim an adjustable blower attached to a stove or fire-place but,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A tire-screen, B, made adjustable in grooves extending from the ash-pan to the top panel of fire-place, to enable said screen to serve also as a blower, in the manner specified.
