(01. 88-24) This invention relates to an illuminating means for pictures, the general object of the invention being to provide means associated with an. electric bulb for casting a bright light upon a picture or other object and means for focusing the light upon the object and also to provide means for regulating the size of the opening through which the light passes.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinaiter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had tothe accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

In these views the numeral l indicates an electric lamp bulb socket for receiving a lamp bulb 2 in the usual manner and in carrying out my in ventien I provide a substantially spherical-shaped body member 3 which has a hole in its lower end through which the socket passes and said lower part being connected with a portion of the socket by the screws 4, the parts being so arranged that the socket can be screwed into an outlet box or socket member to provide current to the bulb 2. The top of the body 3 is cut away to provide the large opening 5 and it is also provided with the ventilating louvers i. At the rear the member 2 is provided with a vertical slot I through which passes a bolt '8 fastened to the center of a reflector 9 located in the body 3 and a thumb nut in engages the projected part of the bolt for adjustably holding the reflector with the bolt 8 in the slot 1. Thus by adjusting the members It and i8 relatively to each other the opening 22 formed by the angle opening 2| and the lower part of the portion l9 and the part can be adjusted as to size as shown in Figure 6 these parts l8 and is are bowed so as to friction ally fit within the guideways I 6 which will cause 20 the parts to remain in adjusted position ai'ter once being adjusted. Thus it will be seen that through which the light passes from the source to the lens barrel can be adjusted and, of course, by adjusting the lens barrel 25 the light rays can be focused on an object placed in front of the lens barrel and by adjusting the mask section the light can be focused on any desired part of the object, such as a picture of a person in a group photograph. Also the housing l3 with the lens barrel can be raised and lowered on the guide l2 and if desired a shade can be used with the device as shown at S in dotted lines in Figure 2.
, By moving the housing ii in the guides l2 the rays of light can be adjusted on an object at the desired elevation and if necessary or desired the reflector 9 can also be adjusted in accordance v ,with the adjustment of the lens barrel.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. An illuminating device comprising a substantially spherical body having an opening in a side part thereof of elongated form and vertically arranged, a lamp in the body. arcuate and vertically arranged guideways carried by the body, one at each side ofthe opening. a housing having an arcuate-shaped inner end guided by said guideways for movement in an arc of a circle having the lamp as its axis, said housing receiving theray's of light from the lamp, through the opening'f all positions of the housing relative to the opening and a lens housins.- 2. An illuminating device comprising a sub- 5 barrel carried by the v parts of the opening from the lamp, a lens barrel carried by the housstantially spherical body having an opening in a side part thereof of elongated form and vertically arranged, a lamp in the body, arcuate and vertically arranged guideways carried by the body, one at each side of the opening, a housing having an arcuate-shaped inner end guided by said guideways to be adjusted opposite different to receive the rays of light 3. An illuminating device 01 the class described comprising a substantially spherical body having an opening in its top, a vertically arranged elongated opening in a side part thereof and a vertically arranged slot in a side part which is diametrically opposite the side part having the elongated opening therein, a housing having an arcu ate-shaped inner end for fitting over the elongated opening, arcuate and vertically arranged guideways carried by the spherical body, one on each side of the elongated opening for said inner end of the housing, a reflector, a bolt carried thereby and passing through the slot and having a nut on its outer end for holding the reflector in adjusted position, a lens barrel carried by the housing through which the rays of light pass from the lamp after it has passed through th elongated opening into the housing.
