acter comprising novel means whereby the clamp- I ing elements may be retained ininoperative position to facilitate insertion of the end portion of the cable or guy wire.
Another very importantobjcct of the invention is to provide a guy wire fastener ofl the character described embodying a construction and arrangement which is such that the device may be expeditiously assembled.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a guy wire fastener of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken `in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a guy wire fastener constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is an elevational view, taken at right angles to Fig. 2.
Figure 4 is a View in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view substantially similar to Fig. 1 but showing the clamping rollers retained in inoperative position.
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5 with the cable or guy wire omitted.
Figure '7 is a detail View in perspective of one of the pivot pins.
Figure 8 is a perspective view, showing a slight modification.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral l designates a substantially ovate plate of suitable metal having formed in its edge or periphery a spirally ribbed groove 2 for the reception of an end portion of a guy wire, as at 3. Also formed in the plate l is a. vertical slot 4. The reference numeral 5 designates a pair` of recesseswhich are formed in the periphery ofthe plate I Vat intermediate points. H
Mounted adjacent the upper portion of the platel and movablevertically independently of 5 said plate `is a pair of horizontal metallic bars 6. Connecting the pair of bars 6 and extending therethrough and therebeyond is a pair` of pins 'I. Peripherally grooved clamping rollers 8 are journalled on the pins 'I between the bars 6.
Journalled onthe-projecting end portions of the pins 1 and depending therefrom are pairs of slotted metallic links 9. `Extending between the lower endportions ofthe pairs of links 9 `are pins II). -Journalled on the pins I0 between the l5 lower portions of the links 9 are comparatively large, peripherally grooved clamping rollers Il.
The reference numeral I2 designates pairs of metallic links having one end portion journalled on the pins IIJ between the rollers II and the 20 lower end portions of the links 9. The other end portions of the links I2 are journalled on a pin I3 which is operable vertically in the slot 4 in the plate I.
The pins 1, I0 and I3 are substantially similar in construction. Referring to Fig. 7 of the drawings, it will be observed that the pin I3includes reduced end portions or necks I4 terminating in heads I5. Mounted on the end portions of the pin I3 is a clevis I6. The clevis I6 has formed in its end portions keyhole slots I'I for the reception of the reduced end portions I4 of the pin I3. 'Ihe reference numeral I8 designates a bar which is insertable in the lower portions of the keyhole slots I1 and the slot 4 foi` engagement beneath the lower end portions of the links I2 for holding the clamping rollers 8 and Il `in raised or inoperative position when desired.
It is thought that the manner in which the device functions will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. As shown to advantage in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings, the bar I8 is inserted through the lower portions of the slots I'I and 4 for retaining the clamping rollers 8 and II in raised position. The end portion of the guy wire 3 may then be conveniently inserted in the device, said guy wire traversing the arcuate recesses 5. The bar I 8 is then removed and when a pulling force is exerted on the clevis I6 the guy wire is firmly clamped between the plate I and the rollers 8 and II. The construction and arrangement is such that the greater the pull to which the device is subjected, the greater will be the clamping action on the guy wire.
The keyhole slots l1 permit the clevis I 6 to be expeditiously removed or detached when desired. In Fig. 8 of the drawings, the reference numeral i 9 designates a cable which maybe connected to the fastener in lieu of the clevis I6. Toward this end, the cable I9 has secured on its end portions a pair of ears or the like 20 having formed therein keyhole slots 2| for the reception of the end portions of the pin I3. This arrangement may be1 used for connection with a pole, also for connectinginsuliators, ifdesired.
It is believed that the many advantages of a guy wire fastener constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although preferred embodiments of the de'- vice are as illustrated and described', it is tobe understood that further modifications changes in the details of construction may be re;-
sorted to which will fall within the scope, of the` invention as claimed.
