Description

Sept. 24, 1940. w. J. ZIEGLER EASTE' DISPENSER CAP OR APPLICATOR Filed Aug. 23, 1939 Pic. 1.
FIG. 2.
FIG.3
VI L (J lNVENTOk UNITED STATES PASTE DISPENSER car or. APPLICATDR L orrics William J. Ziegler, Clarks Summit, Pa.
Application August 23, 1939, Serial No. 291,575
4 Claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel cap or applicator attached to the nozzle of the paste tube to cause a straight flow of the paste without curling, and to stop the flow of paste when operation of the device ceases. It is also an object of my invention to provide the novel combination and arrangement of parts in a device of this type, as shown and described.
I attain these and other objects of my invention by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse section on line ll of Fig. 3 and Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section through the applicator A.
Fig. 3 is the cap or applicator as a unit, screwthreaded to discharging end of paste tube.
Like characters of reference designate like parts in each of the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, T designates a tube of paste, A indicates the cap or applicator as a unit.
Referring to Fig. 2, I provide a knurled or hexagonal channelled thumb piece I which is screwthreaded at 2 for screw-threaded engagement on the conventional threaded nozzle IQ of a paste tube T, member 1 terminating in a depending tube 3. Depending tube 3 preferably has its lower end threaded at 4 for engagement by a base washer 5 screw-threaded on said threaded lower end. To the washer 5, the depending support 6 is fastened by solder or rivets l or by other suitable means. Support 6, in turn carries a check valve 9, which may be spherical or other suitable shape, secured to it by solder 8 or otherwise suitably afiixed, and spaced from the lower end of depending tube 3, as shown in Fig. 2. Valve 9 removably seats on the valve seat [0 to open and close the passageway. The nozzle extension ll provides a longer passageway for the paste (which prevents curling of the paste). The body I2 is detachably afiixed to a top I4 which loosely engages tube 3 to permit of vertical sliding movement relative thereto, and the top M has a threaded depending flange l3 screwthreaded to the upper end of the body I2, as shown in Fig. 2. Positioned above washer 5 is suitable packing I6, above which is a protecting follower or washer I! on which a coil spring l8 seats. This coil spring extends from member I! to the pressure top I 4 of the applicator, and presses against both of those members.
To operate the device, the conventional cap is removed from the paste tube and my dispenser cap or applicator A is screw-threaded on the The paste emerges until pressure is released nozzle of the paste tube in its place, and pressure is exerted on the paste tube, preferably by mechanical means, such as a dispenser. The paste is forced downward to the cap end of the tube and into .the cap or applicator A. The pressure 5 of the paste forced into the lower end of the body l2 forces that member downward away from the valve 9 and against the pressure of spring l8 to create a passage between valve 9 and its seat l0.
l0 whereupon the coil spring 88 bearing against top H, which is affixed to the upper end of the body I2, will force body l2 upward until the ball valve 9 again rests on its valve seat l0, thereby stopping the flow of the paste. 15
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the type described, a paste applicator comprising a channelled screwthreaded thumb piece engageable on the threaded nozzle of the paste tube, said member terminating in a depending tube, a base-washer screw-threaded to the lower end of said tube, packing and a packing follower above said base washer, a coil spring above the packing follower, a body member enclosing the aforeaid elements and having a top loosely engaging the aforesaid tube, and a ball valve suspended from the washer member and spaced from the lower end of the depending tube and adapted to releasably seat on the valve seat of the nozzle extension to control the discharge of paste.
2. In a device of the type described, a paste applicator comprising a channelled screwthreaded member detachably engageable on the threaded nozzle of the paste tube, said member 35 terminating in a depending tube, a base washer on the lower end of said tube, packing and a packing follower above said base washer, a coil spring above the packing follower, a body member enclosing the aforesaid elements and having a top loosely engaging the aforesaid tube, and a ball valve suspended from the washer member and spaced from the lower end of the depending tube and adapted to releasably seat on the valve seat of the nozzle extension to control the discharge of paste.
3. In a device of the type described, a paste applicator comprising a channelled screwthreaded thumb piece engageable on the threaded nozzle of the paste tube, said member terminating in a depending tube, a base Washer screw-threaded to the lower end of said tube, packing and a packing follower above said base washer, a coil spring above the packing follower, a body member enclosing the aforesaid elements and having a top loosely engaging the aforesaid tube, and a valve suspended from the washer -member and spaced from the lower end of the on the lower end of said tube, packing and a packing follower above said base washer, a coil spring above the packing follower, a body member enclosing the aforesaid elements and having a top loosely engaging the aforesaid tube, a ball valve suspended from the washer member and spaced from the lower end of the depending tube and adapted to releasably seat on the valve seat of the nozzle extension to control the discharge of paste, and an extension. nozzle, opening out of the lower portion of the body member the upper end of which provides a valve seat for the ball valve.
