This invention relates to a loom attachment, the general objectof the invention being to provide simple means for changing a multiple drop box looni into an automatic and backag'ain very easily and quickly and with the minimum numin like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and. in whicha Figure 1 is an elevation of parts of the right hand lay end of a loom provided with the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the front part of Figure 1 showinghow the binder assembly is attached to the body memher and end member forming part of the in vention.
Figure 4 is a view of a portion of the binder spring.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5--5 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a view looking toward the inner face of the box end member and showing how the Wire loop member of the binder strap is connected with said box end member.
Figure '7 is a section on the line 1-7 of Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a View showing a portion of the box back member and one of the leather strips for attachment thereto, the parts being separated.
In these drawings, the letter A indicates a frame part or right hand lay end of a loom which is designed to support four boxes in a vertical row. In carrying out the invention a box plate or body 1 is attached to the frame A by the two angle- shaped brackets 2 and 3, each of which has one limb bolted to the frame A and its other limb arranged horizontally and bolted to the member I. Said member I includes a horizontal part forming a seat for the shuttle S and a front depending part and this front depending part is formed with a boss l onits front face adjacent the outer end thereof and this boss has an opening therein for receiving the pivot member 5 for the binder 6, the pivot member being held (m ni-183) inplace by the lock screw 1. The invention also includes a box end member 8' which has a flange 9--at'itslower edge'wliichis connected" by the bolts Illto the outer end'o'f'the member I and the binder spring ll is fastened tothe inner end of-"this 'r'n'err'iber 8 by'the screw l2 and-said mem} ber' 8 has= a-sl'ot I 3 therein which receives the bolt M which supports the Ushaped wire l5 which is connected with the strap ll of the binder. The binder guide 68 and the member l9 forni parts of-the original lo'oin but are bolted to the front of the member l as shown and the binder assembly forms-a part of the original loom. The
top" on horizontal-- part-of1 themember I forms a seat-' for the' shuttle sl and said top partof themeinber 8 has anew l-ther'ein and at its-rear edge it has anupwardly extending part 2 formed-therewith or attached thereto and-aback plate 22 is attached to the top part of the frame A and has the elongated longitudinally extending ears 23 extending forwardly from its upper edge for receiving the straps 24 which have their ends looped over the ends of the members 23 and attached thereto by screws 25, these straps,
of course, forming frictional members for engaging parts of the shuttle in the usual manner. The inner end of the member 2| is enlarged as at 2| and bears against a portion of the lower edge of the back plate 22, as shown in Figure 1, the two members 2| and 22 forming an elongated slot 2'!" between them through which passes a part of the picker stick for engaging the shuttle. The shuttle guide member 21 is attached to the loom frame adjacent the inner end of the member 22 and this guide member 27 consists of a plate having an arcuate flange, the underside of which is covered by the leather or other suitable strap 28. The outer end of the member 8 and the corresponding end of the member l are formed with bolt holes for receiving the bolts 29 for fastening said ends to parts of the frame.
Thus it will be seen that with the parts I, 2, 3, 8, and 22 with its strap parts 24 and the member 2?, a four drop box loom can be easily and quickly converted into an automatic one by simply removing the four boxes and placing these new parts on the right hand lay end and attaching to these new parts the old parts consisting of the binder assembly and the parts associated therewith and then the automatic can be easily changed back to the drop box by removing the parts of the invention and substituting the boxes. It will also be seen that the end forming member 8 with the binder 6 and its strap I! and the upstanding flange 2| at the rear of the horizontal part of the member l with the back plate 22 form a box for the shuttle, the depending part of the member I providing a support to which is attached the binder guide l8 and the member [9 with this front part having the boss 4 thereon which forms a support for the pivot member of the binder.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts pro-" vided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. Means for changing a drop box loom to an automatic loom comprising an elongated member including a horizontal part forming a rest for a shuttle, a depending front part and a short upstanding flange at the rear edge of the horizontal part, brackets for connecting the member to the loom frame, each bracket including a horizontal part connected to the underside of the horizontal part of the member, an upright pivot member carried by the front portion of the elongated member adjacent the outer end thereof, a binder member having one end engaging said pivot member, a guide for the other end of the binder member attached to the front depending part of the elongated member, an elongated bar attached to the frame in spaced relation to the short upstanding flange and forming with the flange a slot for the picker stick, said bar having overhanging forwardly extending portions and friction means carried by said portions for engaging a shuttle.
2. Means for changing a drop box loom to an automatic loom comprising an elongated member including a horizontal part having a slot therein and said part forming a seat for a shuttle, a depending front member connected to the front edge of said horizontal part and a short upstanding flange connected with the rear edge of the horizontal part, brackets for connecting the elongated member with the frame of the loom and each bracket including a horizontal part fastened to the underside of the horizontal part of the elongated member, a short vertically arranged plate having a horizontal flange, means for connecting said flange to the horizontal part of the elongated member at the outer end of said member, an upright pivot member carried by the front part of the elongated member adjacent the inner end of the plate, a binder member having one end connected with the pivot member, a binder guide for the other end of the binder member and connected to the depending part of the elongated member, a binder spring connected with the vertical plate and said vertical plate having a slot therein, a bolt passing through the slot, a wire member connected to the vertical plate by the bolt, a binder strap having one end connected with the wire member and its other end to the binder guide and a bar connected with the loom frame and spaced above the short flange and forming with said flange a slot for the picker stick, outwardly extending portions at the upper edge of the bar and friction members attached to the under faces of said outwardly extending portions for frictionally engaging a shuttle resting on the horizontal part of the elongated member.
