1 Claim.

This invention relates to belts and other personal carrying articles having incorporated therein a pocket or pockets.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a personal carrying article with parallelyarranged pockets one of which extends above the other and the other of which is adapted to receive therewithin in folded condition the extended portion of the first-mentioned pocket whereby the first-mentioned pocket is completely concealed from view.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a combined belt and purse wherein the purse portion is constituted by outer walls of the belt and a partition therebetween providing two pockets, one of which walls has an extension foldable to a position between the partition and the other wall closing the pocket formed by the wall with extension and the partition and simultaneously concealing from view and making inaccessible such pocket, the said other wall functioning as a cover for and lying flatly against the said folded extension when the belt is worn on the person.

It. is a still further object of the present invention to provide a combination two-walled belt and purse in which the purse portion is formed into two parallel pockets by utilizing the walls of the belt as outer walls of the pockets and providing a partition therebetween, one of the walls and the partition having extensions foldable to a position within one of the pockets by which the other pocket is concealed and the said extensions covered by the other Wall of the belt.

Yet another object of the present invention resides in the provision of a three-layer belt by which are formed two parallel pockets, two adjacent layers being higher than the remaining layer providing an extension of one of the pockets foldable to a position within the other of the pockets.

These and other objects of the invention will be more apparent from the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating one embodiment of which the invention may be realized, and in which:

Referring now more particularly to the drawing there is disclosed a belt Ill made of fabric or any other suitable material. The body of the belt comprises three layers, namely, the outer layers or walls 28, 29 and the intermediate layer 21. It is preferable to make outer layer 28 and intermediate layer 21 of a single-piece of material folded over itself to which is seamed at its bottom folded edge the outer layer 29, by means of the stitching St, it being understood, however, that the layers may be made up of three separate pieces or strips of material or that outer layers 28, 29 or outer layer 29 and intermediate layer 21 may be made of a singlepiece of material folded over itself.

The body of the belt may be divided by the transverse stitches st into a plurality of sections l4, l5 and it, each section constituting a sort of purse having parallel pockets 25 and 26, pocket 25 being formed by the outer layer 29 and intermediate layer or partition 21 and pocket 26 by the outer layer 28 and intermediate layer 21. The pockets 25 and 26 of section I4 are formed by the spaced or adjacent transverse securing eans or stitchings St.

Outer layer 28 and intermediate layer 21 have extensions providing double-layer flaps ll, I8, IQ, for the respective pockets 26 of sections l4, l5, [5, each of the said flaps being foldable along the fold line to a position within pocket 25 with the fold line 39 substantially flush with the upper edge of pocket 25 and whereby pocket 26 is hidden from view and the flap covered by the outer layer 29 of the belt (see Figs. 3 and 4). The ends 3! of each flap extension are preferably stitched together forming an extended mouth or continuation of the pocket 26. The fold line 30 is preferably opposite the top edge of the outer layer 29. Stitches St may be used to finish ofi the edges of the belt.

Although it is preferable to have .fiap extensions on both layers 21, 28, it is possible to have only the extension on layer 28 which would then be foldable over the top edge of the shorter intermediate layer, but this construction would not be as practicable as that having the double-layer flap.

A strap H is secured to one end and-a buckle l3 at the other end of the body of belt l0 whereby the belt may girth the wearer as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 5. When the belt I0 is fastened to the body of the wearer, the pockets 26 are completely concealed and cannot be tampered with by any other person without the wearer knowing it.

While the invention has been described with relation to a belt, it is understood that the same is applicable to other articles of manufacture, such as, a pocketbook, handbag, luggage and articles of wearing apparel.

Furthermore, although the drawing and the above specification discloses a mode inwhich it has been contemplated embodying the invention, it is desired that it in no way be limited to the details of such disclosure, for in the further practical application of the inventionmany changes in the form and proportions may be made as circumstances require or experience suggests without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent is:

In a belt, three flat juxtapositioned longitudinal members closed at one longitudinal edge thereof forming the bottom of said belt, transverse spaced-apart securing means joining said members together and forming of said members lateral walls of a plurality of pockets between adjacent of said securing means, and flaps projecting from two adjacent of said members and from between said adjacent securing means, said flaps being secured at their lateral ends whereby an extended mouth is formed for one of said pockets, said flaps being foldable to a position within another of said pockets with the line of foldsubstantially flush with the upper edge of said another of said pockets and whereby said one of said pockets is concealed from view and made inaccessible when said flaps are folded, and means for securing the ends of said belt about the body of the wearer.
