Description
O. FOSTER. Corset.
Patented July 6,1880.
N.PEI'ERS. PHOTO-LITHUGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. FOSTER, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,598, dated July 6, 1880,
Application filed December 20, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. FOSTER, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved corset, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same.
Similar letters of reference denote corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention relates to corsets; audit consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A A represent the sides of the corset, each of which consists of a front section, B, and a rear section, C, connected by lacing D, which extends from the upper to the lower edge of the corset. At the back of the corset the rear sections, C C, are connected by strips of webbing E E, stitched securely between the two thicknesses of material of which the sections C C are composed.
The backs of the sections C C are supported by steels F F, arranged beside the rows of stitching G, by which the strips of webbing E are secured, and the latter may be connected by a strip, H, stitched across the entire series, as shown in the drawings.
The front sections, B B, are provided with clasps I, of ordinary construction, by which they may be connected or buttoned together in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The herein-described improved corset, consisting of rear sections, C C, provided, near their rear edges, with steels F F, and connected by strips of webbing E, and front sections, B B, connected to the rear sections by lacing D D, extending from the upper to the lower edge of the corset, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. WM. FOSTER.
Witnesses ADOLPH ASKER, O. T. DRISOOLL.
