My invention relates to new and useful improvements in paper containers and more particularly to a container for milk or other fluids and the present application is a division of my co-pending application filed September 13, 1939, Serial No. 294,762,

The principal object of the invention resides in the provision of a novel form of bottom closure for the body portion of the container, said bottom closure including a flanged portion spaced from the wall of the body and in which space adhesive may be applied for securing the bottom closure within the body and to provide a tight seal.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a novel form of bottom closure for the body portion of the container, the body portion being tapered and the bottom closure having a disc-like portion and an outwardly directed flange; the flange being bent at an angle in a direction oppositeto the taper of the body, to provide a space between the outer face of the flange and the inner face of the body for an adhesive, said adhesive securely connecting the bottom portion to and within the body portion and providing a tight seal to prevent leakage of the contents of the container.

At 3 I have illustrated a bottom closure inserted into the large end of the body and this bottom closure includes the top disc-like portion and a depending flange 4 which is bent to project at less than a angle from the top disclike portion and as shown in a direction opposite to the taper of the body. I Cooperating with the taper of the body i the flange 4 provides a space between the outer face of the flange and the inner face of the body to receive the adhesive which is shown at 5. This adhesive secures the bottom closure securely within the larger end of the body and as a considerable amount of the adhesive may be received in the space formed between the outer face of the flange and the inner face of the body a tight seal is provided to aid in preventing leakage of the contents from the container. It will be understood that the bottom closure is positioned inwardly of the bottom edge of the body and the bottom edge is then turned inwardly, as shownat 6, to en- -gage and tightly press against the inner face With the above and other objects in view, which of the invention, as they now appear to me, it

Paper containers have come into extensive use for various purposes, such as for holding milk or other liquids, and in carrying forward my invention I have had in mind a bottom closure of a form cooperating with the taper of the body portion of the container to provide a'space for the reception of adhesive for securely attaching the bottom closure within the body and forming a tight seal to prevent leakage of the contents of the container.

In the drawing l indicates the body portion of of the flange Q. As shown in the drawing a .certain amount of adhesive 5 will extend below the bottom edge of the depending flange and due to the pressure applied in turning, the bottom edge of the body into contact with the inner face of the flange it is possible that some of the adhesive may be forced between the upturned bottom edge of the body and the inner face of the depending flange. If this is done the adhesive will aid in holding the up-tumed edge of the body in engagement with the depending flange of the bottom.

' From the above it will be seen that I have provided a novel form of bottom closure for a container in which the bottom closure will be securely held against displacement and provide a tight seal. The bottom closure is inserted into the enlarged end of the body, which is tapered, and will be forced into tight engagement with the inner face of the body, as shown very clearly material in the container between the outer face of the flange and the inner face of the body. of course, the up-tumed bottom edge of the body also aids in forming the: tight seal.

A top closure for the container, shown at I, is in the form of a cap having a depending flange 8 and a tab 9, this tab 9 being provided for tearing a portion of the top closure along the lines l and II. The overlapped edge 2 of the container is shown as being provided with a flap i2 beneath which the tab 9 may be engaged when desired, but as the top. closure and the'flap I2 form no part of the invention covered by the present application, but is covered in the eopending application of which the present application is a division, a further detailed description thereof will not be given.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A container including a tapered body and a bottom closure having a disc-like portion and an outwardly directed flange, the bottom closure being inserted into the larger end of the tapered body with the flange extending outwardly and that portion of the flange adjacent the disc-like portion contacting with the inner face of the body, the flange being bent at an angle of less than relative to the disc-like portion and in a direction opposite to the taper of the body to provide a space between the outer face of the flange and the inner face of the body from, the outer end of the flange to the point of contact with the body and opening towards the larger end of the body, said larger end being folded inwardly around the end of-the closure flange and in contact with the inner face thereof and adhesive positioned in and filling said space.
