ORNAMENTAL PIN Filed Nov. 25, 1940 Inven ior Juice b4 20 //a A liomey' Patented Nov. 11, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ORNAMENTAL PIN Joseph Botta, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application November 25, 1940, Serial No. 367,099
2 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in ornamental pins and has for its primary object to provide a flexible connection between the shank of the pin and an ornamental head attached thereto whereby to impart motion to the ornamental object forming the head of the pin while the pin is attached to a garment while being worn.
A further important object of the present invention is to provide an ornamental pin construction embodying a flexible connection between the shank of the pin and an ornamental object attached thereto and in which the said object is positioned forwardly so as to enable a free vibrating movement thereof without interference with the garment or other object to which the pin is attached.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevational view,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary rear elevational View illustrating the stud providing the connection for the flexible member and the ornamental object carried by the pin.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the straight shank of a pin having its upper end offset rearwardly and inclined forwardly as shown at 6, the end 6 of the pin being inserted in the lower end of a coil spring I. The spring I may be soldered or therwise fixedly secured to the upper end portion of the pin, or the end portion 6 may be provided with a head 8 to produce a binding action internally of the spring to prevent accidental removal therefrom.
The spring 1 extends upwardly from the pin 5 and has a stem 9 inserted in its upper end which is also soldered or otherwise fixedly secured therein. The upper end of the stem 9 is provided with a forwardly inclined plate ID to the front surface of which is secured the ornamental object, which in the present embodiment of the invention is in the form of a butterfly as shown at H. The object II is soldered or otherwise fixedly secured to the front surface of the plate I0.
The portion of the pin 5 below the spring 1 may also have attached thereto other ornamental objects, such as leaves, indicated at I2, these objects likewise being soldered or otherwise fixedly secured to the shank of the pin 5.
The spring 1 provides a flexible connection between the pin 5 and the ornamental object II and accordingly, when the pin is attached to the garment of a person the ornamental object. will be permitted to vibrate freely simulating life to the object and thus improve attractiveness of the object.
By reason of the inclined upper end 6 of the pin and the inclined position of the plate ID, the object will be spaced away from the garment to which the pin is attached and thereby prevent interference with the free movement of the object.
It is believed the details of construction, advantages and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. An ornamental pin comprising a shank portion having an offset forwardly inclined upper end, a coil spring having its lower end telescopically receiving the upper end of the shank and fixedly secured thereto, a rigid stem inserted in the upper end of the coil spring and fixedly secured thereto, a forwardly inclined plate on the upper end of said stem and an ornamental object secured to said plate.
2. An ornamental pin comprising a shank portion, a coil spring having one end telescopically receiving the upper end of the shank, an ornament with a rigid stem, the said stem inserted into and fixedly secured to the other end of said spring.
